Run for the Roses with Vineyard Vines

April 17, 2017

Each year, Vineyard Vines releases a special collection for the Kentucky Derby that is perfect for Louisville’s biggest event.  This year’s collection features four different dresses but I simply couldn’t resist this Run for the Roses dress.  My friend Jilli is best known for being the incredibly skilled photographer and #bossbabe behind Pink Owl Photography here in Louisville, but last week she was kind enough to let me shoot with her sweet horse Dixie!

What’s the skinny on this year’s Vineyard Vines x Kentucky Derby collection?

This year’s Derby collection from Vineyard Vines is filled with casual tees, shorts, quarter zips, scarves, totes and other goodies.  I love going through the whole thing each spring when it releases and always have a lengthy wish list.  This year, I’m loving this Run for the Roses dress; it has the cutest print mix with the cornflower stripes and oversized roses.  The back is a cute v cut while the front has a scoop neckline that’s flattering without being revealing.  I’m wearing a 0, but could have sized down.

Devil’s in the details.

Vineyard Vines partnered with Formé Millinery, based here in Louisville, to create a collection of fascinators especially for this collection.  I love the ombré layers in the bow and how the middle tier matches the cornflower blue of the stripes in the dress.  I’ve mentioned before that I like fascinators better than hats, but I should also mention that I love a fascinator that’s on a headband.  Putting it on is so easy and it makes the fascinator easy to store.

While you could definitely wear this dress with a pair of blue pumps {or these pink ones!}, I pulled out my trusty Hunter boots since it had just rained.  A hot pink leather clutch was perfect to go with the rose print.   This bag from Kate Spade has a crossbody strap that can be removed.  About five years ago, I needed a pink bag for Oaks Day and found this one at Nordstrom Rack.  And finally, I have to share the details on these sunglasses!  It’s not exactly a secret that I play favorites with my tortoise pair from Karen Walker, but I finally decided I needed a pair of black sunglasses.  I picked up this pair on major sale while I was shopping at the Bluegrass Outlets a couple weekends ago and really like the oversized fit.

Thank you to Vineyard Vines for partnering with me on this post.  As always, all opinions shared are my own.

Those sunnies were such a great find! Also, I love that you paired this with your rainboots–Derby Day has been known to be rainy, afterall:)

Haha thank you friend! The rainbows weren’t planned but I love the way it turned out. And yes — the sunnies were a great find; I’ve been wearing them a ton.

This dress looks amazing on you, and the print is so pretty–I just might have to buy the dress, even without an even to attend. 😀

Are you going to the Derby this year?

    xoxo,
    Whit
