Striped Sweater Two Ways + How to Give Back for BTS

August 19, 2019

Is my summer blogging schedule my best schedule? TBD.  I’m showing a striped sweater two ways for now and later.  Full transparency, the last couple weeks it felt a little frivolous for me to talk about clothes, makeup, love lessons from the Bachelorette, etc. when we’ve seen two mass shootings.

There’s quite a few good posts and resources out there [1, 2, 3] on what you can do if you feel outraged, so today I wanted to share how to give back to your local community during the back to school season.

4 Important Things I’ve Learned By Working For Myself

May 7, 2018

Happy Monday! Today I’m sharing a work wear look that will be perfect for the office now and throughout summer. We’re also getting into the nitty gritty of what I’ve learned in the past year and a half of working for myself. While the path isn’t for everyone, it’s been a journey that’s taught me a lot about myself, my finances, and life in general.

April 29, 2017

I love a good deal and this outfit is just that!  {Y’all my polka dot dress was only $1.25! Polka Dot Pattern Mixing

June 24, 2016

We made it to the weekend! I finished my first full week at my new part time job as a Loft girl and am sharing a fun print mix of stripes and polka dots that’s the perfect summer outfit for the office.

What Nicole Wore: Polka Dot Pattern Mixing
featured in this post: loft: polka dot ruffle tank {40% off with code JUICY} + loft: stripe skirt {40% off with code JUICY} + forever 21: block heel sandal + kendra scott: silver druzy necklace c/o + kendra scott: bracelet set c/o + fossil: tan leather watch c/o + madewell: tote + colourpop: matte lipstick + nars: blush + tarte: eyebrow pencil
Playing with patterns is one of my favorite ways to get the most out of my wardrobe and rejuvenate classic pieces, but can be overwhelming for some.  One of my top tips is to select items within the same color scheme.  This striped skirt first caught my eye because of the unique tulip hem detail.  Tulip hems normally aren’t my thing; extra flowy fabric makes my hips look wider something I tend to avoid as much as humanly possible.  Luckily this skirt is made of a stretchy {and thick} material that doesn’t add any width to the hips plus it sits higher with emphasis placed on the waist.  I wear petite sizing in LOFT pants, but like to stick to the misses sizing for skirts and shorts.

This skirt has tons of styling possibilities {so stay tuned to see some upcoming remixes with it}, but this brand new polka dot top was too fun to resist when we unpacked it earlier in the week.  The ruffle detail is super cute and the thicker tank sleeves make it office appropriate but also easy to throw on with jeans for the weekend or a mid-week dinner out.  I ended up getting this top in XS Petite {I’m 5’6 for reference} and am wearing it over a white camisole as the shell does run on the sheer side.

I’m always an advocate for accessories, but over the past year or so I’ve leaned towards adding jewelry pieces that are easy to mix and match with other jewelry as well as my full closet.  This bracelet set from Kendra Scott features three bangles in gold, silver and rose gold with delicate engraved and pave detail. While I’m pretty solidly on team gold now, for a long time I had a pretty strong affinity for all things silver; having mixed metal pieces makes it easy for me to mix and match my jewelry pieces without really having to think about it.

I originally wasn’t so sure about this watch when I first got it, but the classic tan leather goes with everything {including my cognac tote} and extra bonus, it features the date which I honestly never can actually tell you without pulling out my phone.

I skipped Friday Favorites last week, but have some really good ones for ya today to make up for it, I promise!

  • This pizza charm necklace is giving me life, especially since I’ve been craving allllll the unhealthy food lately.
  • I cracked up reading Elsie’s account of finding the perfect “blog wall,” because same.
  • Having an interest in fashion + style and living in the South makes it pretty much impossible to not know who Kendra Scott is, but this article about how she got her start in design and how that eventually led into jewelry design {as well as the more recent changes that company has made} was absolutely fascinating to me.
  • How fun is this bright statement necklace for summer? It’s on sale right now so snag it while you can and pair it with a bright maxi dress! Want to see more fun sale picks? Scroll up the sidebar to my current Summer Sale Loves!

Olive You Always

February 22, 2016

Cheers to a new week! I enjoyed one too many Pina Coladas while out at dinner this weekend {oops}, but luckily was able to pull myself together Sunday morning. I also slammed my hand in the door Saturday morning, which led to me indulging in said Pina Coladas.

What Nicole Wore: Olive You Always
shop the post: olive tunic c/o shein {under $15} + white cami {similar} + ny and company black cropped pants {similar} + black scalloped flats {similar here also} + black druzy necklace + fieldcrest wood watch c/o jord wood watches + nail polish + maybelline fit me foundation {in coconut} c/o influenster {I blended it with this foundation to get a closer match to my skin tone} + bronzer {to contour} + blush + eye shadow + eyebrow filler + mascara + liquid eyeliner + blue eyeliner {on waterline only}
Influenster sent me one of the new shades of Maybelline’s Fit Me Foundation in matte; I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to face makeup due to the fact that it’s always super hard for me to find a match. This one is too dark and a little more orange than I liked, but I was able to blend it with the liquid foundation I’ve been using and have it look a bit more natural. The formula was very runny which I’m not a fan of, but I think if I were to continue experimenting with the new shades, I could probably find a closer match. This foundation did last me over twelve hours and stayed matte.

What Nicole Wore: Olive You Always

Okay, let’s talk about this tunic; it’s $14, the perfect shade of olive green, lightweight and slightly longer in the back. The neckline is flattering and has a little dip without going too low. I like the look {and calmed nerves} of having a cami underneath, but you could go without too. I paired my tunic with my black work pants {I swear by the NY & Co clearance racks}, but I can’t wait to wear it with my white jeans or some distressed blue jeans for a more casual look.  What Nicole Wore: Olive You Always

I also wore my Fieldcrest watch to add onto the classic color vibes. I love the light wood and how feminine it looks while also maintaining the ability to go with just about anything in my closet.  My watch came already sized which is a major plus in my book since I have baby wrists that tend to be way too small for lots of watches.
