Criss Crossed Cardigan

December 30, 2015

While trying to think of a title for this post, I kept singing this haha.  This one size fits all cardigan from SheIn caught my eye with the white and gray colorblock underneath the diamond pattern.

What Nicole Wore: Criss Crossed Cardigan
in this post: gray cardigan c/o shein {also seen here} + black tank {old, similar | also seen here} + blue skinny jeans + silver druzy necklace + wood watch c/o jord wood watches {also seen here} + cream and black flats {also seen here} + nail polish + eyebrow filler + blush + highlighter + bronzer + foundation + lip tint {from this holiday set} + eye shadow + mascara

I really let it be the statement piece of this outfit by wearing it over a solid black popover tank {so, so versatile, I wish I’d bought this in more colors} and blue skinny jeans. The cardigan is very fuzzy, as you can see, and hits at mid thigh. It’s a little larger than I usually take my cardigans due to the one size, but super cozy. It fits more like a coatigan for me.

One of the things that I love about SheIn is that they provide trendy pieces at very affordable prices.

This wine lip tint is a little darker than I wear day to day, but I really like how bold it looks and how smoothly it applies. Because of all the vitamins it’s loaded with, I don’t have to apply it over a balm like many lip products with this much pigment. The color payout is awesome, you don’t need to layer up to build this amount of color.

Building on to all the neutrals in this outfit, I pulled out my Fieldcrest watch; I love the way the light wood looks next to the white – so crisp. My other bold color comes from my nails, this is one of my favorite OPI shades.  What Nicole Wore: Criss Crossed Cardigan

The neckline on this shirt can make it difficult to find a necklace that pairs well, but my Kendra Scott druzy necklace always is up for a challenge. It’s the perfect length for this neckline and adds just the right amount of sparkle.

Mad for Plaid with SheIn

December 4, 2015

I’d like to apologize in advanced for all the plaid you’re about to be exposed to on What Nicole Wore this month. When I think about the holidays and getting dressed, my mind immediately goes to plaid.

What Nicole Wore: Mad For Plaid with SheIn
shop the post: bow headband {similar} + necklace {old, similar} + striped & sequined tee {also seen here} + plaid flare skirt c/o shein + tights + ankle boots + nail polish + lip color {applied over this} + blush + mascara + foundation + eyebrows

When SheIn (formerly known as She Inside), first reached out to me about doing a post with them, I knew that I had to have this red plaid skirt for a holiday style look. It also comes in a green and navy plaid (I die) and a beautiful black and gray; at just $20 with free shipping the price is just right as well.

Shop some of my current faves from SheIn:

When this skirt arrived, I was pleasantly surprised with the weight of the fabric; it’s very thick (yaaaasssss) and lined, which isn’t necessary, but helps prevent those Marilyn moments that inevitably happen when you wear a flared skirt. Be sure to pull out your measuring tape for this piece, I sized up to a medium off the waist measurements and the fit is just right plus I like this length. I’ve placed orders from online retailers before without measuring and it never goes well. Measure that waist! (And the length if you’re worried about keeping the booty covered like me.)What Nicole Wore: Mad For Plaid with SheIn

I knew that my new long sleeved tee from J Crew Factory was the piece I wanted to attempt to style with this skirt before it even arrived so I had to do a little celebration dance after it arrived and the two pieces matched up well. Sequins + plaid = holiday party y’all. Don’t fight it. Let it happen. Embrace it.

I’ve heard others complain about this tee being itchy and while I haven’t had that problem, I have suffered from the sequins getting caught on each other. This mostly happens between the sides and my inner arms. I wouldn’t recommend wearing this shirt to work or to decorate your tree, but for a holiday party or somewhere that isn’t going to have you doing a ton of moving around, I think it’s fine. I’d also think about sizing down; I usually wear a small in J Crew’s knit tees, but this one is slightly oversized. I’m hoping after the first wash to have it shrink down a bit.

I went pretty minimal with make up and accessories since both of these pieces make a statement on their own. I brought out my multi metal statement necklace from Charming Charlie and went with simple makeup with a red lip.

I really thought long and hard about wrapping up an empty box as a photo prop, but if we’re being honest the real holiday prompt I wanted for this shoot was the Electric Reindeer wine I picked up this week. I wasn’t so sure my neighbors would approve of me prancing around outside with said bottle, so no props haha.  What Nicole Wore: Mad For Plaid with SheIn

Hounding Around with eShakti: 11.13.15

November 13, 2015

Ever tried something on at a store and immediately grimaced before thinking to yourself, if it were just a little longer/bigger in the hips/the neckline weren’t so low, etc? Me too. Enter eShakti. eShakti is a women’s fashion clothing that offers clothing in sizes 0-36w, but what makes them unique is that every item they offer can be ordered in those standard sizes or custom made for you based on your measurements. On top of that you can change the design of pieces: love that mini skirt, but would feel comfortable with the hemline being at the knee? eShakti’s got you covered. Love that red dress but think it would be better with 3/4 length sleeves instead of a cap sleeve? Yep, they can take care of that too.

I’ve spoken before about the struggle I have with getting skirts and pants that fit me in the hips, thighs and waist so when eShakti reached out to me about making a piece tailored to me, I knew I was gonna go big: it was time to order a skirt. What Nicole Wore: Hounding Around with eShakti

eShakti’s current turnaround for custom tailored pieces is 12-18 days. I was very impressed with the speed; nine days after I’d submitted my measurements, I came home to this package on my front door. Also impressive? The variety in styles available at any given time. While trying to decide on what piece I wanted to style for this post, I realized that the site really does have something for everyone and more importantly: every body. I saw styles I could see my mother wearing, I saw pieces I loved, I saw pieces that my bustier friends would like and could customize the neckline on.  The customization fee is $7.50, which having had a handful of skirts tailored to fit my waist, hips and/or thighs, I can say is beyond reasonable! {The last time I had a skirt tailored for this reason, I paid close to $20 for the alterations.}

What Nicole Wore: Hounding Around with eShakti
shop the post: ivory sleeveless blouse {similar} + houndstooth skirt c/o eShakti + 3/4 sleeve navy blazer {similar} marled tights + rebecca minkoff clutch {exact print sold out, under $20 version | also seen here} + ring {also seen here} + pave link bracelet {also seen here} + spiked bracelet {also seen here} + michael kors watch + ankle boots {also seen here} + eye shadow + eye primer + blush + foundation + eyebrow filler + highlighter + mascara + setting spray

It didn’t take me long to find this skirt and keep coming back to it. I really felt like the textured houndstooth and funky colors encompassed my personal style. I then had someone else (thanks Mom!) take my measurements.  While I had this skirt made custom to my body, I liked the way this one looked; mini skirts are kind of my jam and these pockets aren’t the kind I worried would make me look wider in the hips. However, this skirt can be made four different lengths and you can opt to have the pockets removed.

While I waited for my skirt to arrive, I started dreaming up ways I wanted to style it. With the holidays coming up, I thought it would be fun to do a dressier look. The colors in this skirt are stunning, so I opted for a neutral off white top with an embellished collar to bring some sparkle.

What Nicole Wore: Hounding Around with eShakti

Total honesty: when I first pulled the skirt out of the box, I was convinced it was WAY too small and there was no way it would fit – despite the fact that I knew it’d been made based off my body’s measurements. I was so relieved when I pulled it on and found it was the perfect fit. I love that this style is the contour waist, that really highlights and emphasizes the (in my opinion) best part of my body.  What Nicole Wore: Hounding Around with eShaktiThe navy in the skirt made me think of my navy blazer and I love the classic and perfectly preppy look of the navy blazer over the ivory top. What Nicole Wore: Hounding Around with eShakti
