Bicycle Graphic Tee & Vera Bradley Tess Crossbody

July 18, 2016

Cheers to Monday! I spent most of my weekend at the gym {#WhoAmI} and putting off studying for the test I have this week, but the kickoff and highlight of my weekend was a super sweet package from Vera Bradley featuring some of their brand new fall items that launched last Tuesday! Over the past couple years, they have stepped up their design game big time and released leather styles that are absolutely stunning while maintaining the convenience that brand lovers have come to expect with their products.

This bag is available in several different colors and fabrications, such as cognac & black leather, and a couple of different prints too.  You can snag the leather bag on sale in lilac {under $100!} and white {almost 40% off!} right now!  I love this one because it brings in burgundy which is always such a big color for fall and the black piping is fabulous.

Almost immediately, I knew that I wanted to create an outfit around my new bag and this super cute graphic tee.  At $12 it’s a great deal and the fit is really comfortable; I did go up to a small in this one just so it was a bit looser.  This outfit also would be super fun with a button-front denim {or suede} skirt for a more casual look.

These skirts go with everything and are super easy to wear. My only knock against them is that the linen material wrinkles super easily.  Luckily, it’s very easy to steam, but it’s not a piece I’d travel with.

What’s In My Bag: Beach Edition

May 18, 2016

I picked up some fun new goodies for my trip to Florida this week from Vera Bradley and wanted to share how versatile their striped beach tote is as well as some of the items I keep throwing into said bag.

What Nicole Wore: What's in my Bag, Beach Edition
featured in this photo: vera bradley striped beach tote c/o
The bag is super lightweight, has a super fun double tassel charm and hangs from a 12″ drop strap that makes it easy to throw over your shoulder.  As much as I love my leather bags, taking them near water never seems like the smartest idea, so it’s been nice to have this bag for anytime I’ve gone near water — like when we went on a river cruise to look for manatees.

featured in this photo: beach bag c/o + white strappy bikini top + DIY beach hat {tutorial here, similar linked | also seen here} + vera bradley tassel beach towel c/o + donut pool float {similar} + starfish cuff + nail polish
I picked the natural stripe color because I thought it would give me more mix and match options, but the bag also comes in navy stripes and lilac stripes.  Resisting the navy was super hard for me, but I’m trying to hold myself accountable and step outside my color comfort zone.  So what are the essentials that you need in your bag?

What Nicole Wore: What's in my Bag, Beach Edition
featured in this photo: DIY beach hat + instax mini 8 c/o + coin purse {old, similar linked, gift from Emily} + s’well bottle c/o + striped beach bag c/o + aztec beach towel c/o
I always carry one of my Vera Bradley beach towels with me when I go to the beach or pool, this trip I’ve been using my tassel beach towel, but I also have several of the printed towels too.  They’re nice and thick and wash nicely too.  I don’t usually need my full wallet and to cut back on weight, I’ve switched to a small card sized coin purse that I can stick my debit and credit cards into as well as my license and some cash.

I love my Instax camera to take fun snapshots with so I’ve been throwing that in my bag as well as my S’well bottle.  I’ve told you all how much I love my S’well, but it has been a major key to this Florida trip.  With the heat and humidity here, a refrigerated water bottle is room temperature in under an hour.  The S’well keeps my water {or whatever I’m sipping on} cold all day.

One of the things that I love about Vera Bradley is that they have their classic styles {even for collections like Beach}, but they always work to incorporate the latest trends into said pieces. I love the fun double tassel charm on this bag.

Be sure to check out the rest of Vera Bradley‘s beach line here.

Thank you to Vera Bradley for partnering with me on this post.  Working with brands I love allows me to continue to create fresh, new content for What Nicole Wore. All opinions expressed are my own.

Beach Bike Cruiser

May 16, 2016

Happy Monday from the Sunshine State! I’m enjoying some R&R this week in southwest Florida and while it’s been absolutely beautiful so far, I can share that I was definitely not mentally prepared for the humidity. RIP straight hair, matte skin, dry bath towels, etc.

What Nicole Wore: Beach Bike Cruiser
featured in this post: old navy: high neck tank top + j crew: broken in boyfriend chino shorts {thrifted, similar | also seen here} + karen walker: sunglasses c/o DITTO {also seen here} + kohl’s: sandals {super old} + vera bradley: striped beach tote c/o {also seen here} + eBay: statement necklace + fossil: tan leather watch c/o {also seen here} + sage k and co: spiked bracelet {similar} + opi: nail polish + tarte: foundation + nyx: setting spray
As soon as we got to our rental on Marco Island, I immediately noticed these cute cruiser bikes and knew they’d have to make an appearance in a few photos this week.  I’m looking forward to going for a few rides on this turquoise and white beauty as well.

What Nicole Wore: Beach Bike Cruiser

I bought this high neck tank in this gray and white striped version as well as a solid and am really going to have to try hard to convince myself that I don’t need more.  It’s a longer length, perfect for leggings, and very comfortable.  I wore my fuchsia one on the ride down to Florida and it was comfortable enough to curl up and nap in the backseat in, but also was easy for me to throw my jean vest over and look presentable whenever we stopped.

What Nicole Wore: Beach Bike Cruiser

I strategically planned my latest DITTO swap and opted to ask for something I knew I’d love versus a trendy pair of shades; I love the flexibility of trying a pair for two or three days, not liking them and sending them back.  I also love that there’s no judgment when I ask for my tried and true pair again.  You can try a free month trial of the subscription service right now when you sign up with code whatnicolewore; if you end up deciding the service isn’t worth $24/month, you can cancel at the end of your free trial.

I was originally in jeans on this day and quickly realized that if I didn’t want to continue to slowly boil, I should probably switch to shorts.  Of course, I still needed something to complete the look so I threw on this orange and blue statement necklace that I snagged off of eBay.  It’s a great dupe for this necklace from Stella & Dot and a fraction of the price — always a win in my book.

As much as I love swapping out my accessories, I knew for this trip that I wanted to try to minimize how many accessories I brought so that I could bring more swimsuits + beach towels.  I own a few different watches, but I love that the tan leather strap on this one makes it so versatile.  Want to bring more bold color in? Go with a colorful statement necklace like I did here or throw on a couple of your colorful bracelets.

What Nicole Wore: Beach Bike Cruiser

This beach bag from Vera Bradley’s latest collection has me swooning. Not only is it super cute, it’s also very lightweight while still being sturdy enough to load up with towels and all your other beach or pool essentials.  I own quite a few of their different beach items, but couldn’t resist this super cute striped tote {it comes in two other color options!} and I love the tassel charm that’s on the bag.

Spot On, Nailed It

January 8, 2016

You know when you overdo it during leg day but you don’t know until later? My current situation. Not even going to try and lie, I thought I was killing my leg day (mistake number one) and then I got home and sat down (mistake number two) before I got in the shower and I’m pretty sure I sat there for at least thirty minutes really trying to decide if I was going to be able to get out of my UnderArmour leggings. Post-hot shower, I’m doing a bit better but already dreading how I’m going to feel the next couple days.

What Nicole Wore: Spot On, Nailed It
shop the post: brown contrast lined cardigan {thrifted, similar | also seen here} + magenta dress worn as blouse {old, similar | also seen here} + polka dot scarf {also seen here} + blue skinny jeans + tall boots {similar | also seen here} + rose gold spiked bracelet + nail wrap ring c/o the peach box {use code tpb-whatnicolewore for 15% off your purchase this month at the peach box!} + nail polish + foundation + blush + eyeshadows  + eyebrow filler + eyebrow highlight + mascara + lips

Before any of this honestly a bit traumatizing experience happened, I was just minding my own business, doing my thing and wearing this outfit. This brown cardigan with magenta outline is one of my favorite ThredUp finds, the sweater has metallic threading in it which makes it different. Magenta is such a bright and fun color to me, so I opted to wear the cardigan over my magenta dress to really pull out more of the boldness of the color. It’s been (suddenly) so cold here and I’m just trying to stay away from the blah drab colors that really add to the blah drab-ness of the weather.
What Nicole Wore: Spot On, Nailed It

I wanted to keep my jewelry pretty minimal since I was wearing a scarf to add a little warmth and some pattern with the polka dots. I pulled out my rose gold spiked bracelet and took my new Nail Wrap Ring from The Peach Box for a spin too. This ring immediately jumped out at me while I was browsing their site; how cute is the nail detailing?! I thought it was a really unique, statement piece but still (size wise) isn’t over the top. Some other pieces from TPB that I’m currently crushing on are: the Aztec Trilogy Ring, the Crystal Bezel Necklace and these fun pearl and gold ear jackets. You can get 15% off your order by using code tab-whatnicolewore now through January 31st!

What Nicole Wore: Spot On, Nailed It

I’ve been playing around with more dramatic makeup for blog pictures lately, but went really simple and used a few matte shades from this Lorac eyeshadow palette and fell back in love with it. While I typically don’t wear eyeshadow every day, I’ve found this look is very easy to apply and doesn’t fall into the, “is it okay to wear a super glittery smokey eye to work” category. What Nicole Wore: Spot On, Nailed It
What Nicole Wore: Spot On, Nailed It

I don’t think I ever realized that I “needed” a good polka dot scarf until I was gifted this one at work last year, but I’ve gotten a ton of wear out of it. I admittedly have way too many scarves, including some that I never wear, but this one goes with most of my closet due to the black and white palette and I love that the polka dots can add some personality to an outfit composed of basics.
What Nicole Wore: Spot On, Nailed It

Hope you have a great and relaxing weekend! I’m looking forward to trying a few new recipes to snack on during football + (hopefully) a couple trips to the gym.

What Nicole Wore: Fall Mixer
shop this post: hm tortoise sunglasses {similar} + vera bradley scarf {also seen here} + target cargo vest {similar | also seen here} + striped tee via sam’s club {similar | also seen here} + roz & ALI blue jeans {similar | also seen here} + charlotte russe crossbody purse {similar} + nail polish + stella dot ring {also seen here}

It amazes me that some people are such accessory haters when they are often the completing part of the outfit. Working in retail means I’ve learned how to sell these pieces, but I often think back to something an old manager said to me.  “Every day when someone gets dressed, they put on one item that they know will get them compliments.”  At first, I was a little lost at her logic, I mean helllllo I want to be complimented on my whole outfit every single day -insert sassy emoji-. But when you think about it, there’s always one piece that takes an outfit from this + this to a finished look that looks intentionally put together.
What Nicole Wore: Fall Mixer

In this outfit, I’d say that piece is the polka dot scarf.  The pattern play is eye catching and the black scarf with white polka dots is opposite of the white shirt with black stripes. Pattern mixing is a concept that people either love or hate and there are certainly ways to do it at every comfort level. This graphic from History in High Heels is a good starting point if you feel completely overwhelmed with how to start. Matching the colors in the prints is key to making the mixing look more intentional than ‘I got dressed in the closet with the lights off.’    What Nicole Wore: Fall Mixer

I linked a ladies size utility vest with sequin lined pockets above, but I am actually wearing the Target kids version. As usual, I tried both on and really felt like this one was the better fit. I’m wearing a girls Large 10-12. The material is lighter weight than the ladies version. Both are sold out online, but may be available in store.
