old navy gingham button down {similar} + loren hope necklace c/o rocksbox {sold out} + kendra scott necklace c/o rocksbox + target skirt {old} + target leopard print loafers {similar}

This outfit might be too busy for some people, but I love to play with patterns and thought this orange and gray zig zag skirt was a fun way to tie in the orange on my Loren Hope necklace. This outfit is a huge mix of everything since I have black and brown on as well as silver and gold jewelry — spice up your life, people!

H&M pink houndstooth dress worn as blouse + NY & Co pants + Charming Charlie necklace
H&M pink houndstooth dress worn as blouse {old — similar, similar} + NY & Co pants {similar, on sale} + Charming Charlie necklace {old, similar} + colorblock flats {similar, on sale}

This whole outfit is old but loved. The pink houndstooth dress (worn here as a blouse) is an old find that I picked up off the sale rack at H&M in Cincinnati before the store in Louisville opened (or they had online shopping — dark days, my friends), the black pants are a sale rack find and the necklace is a Charming Charlie clearance pick. As seen on Instagram: What I Wore

charlotte russe lace dress worn as blouse + j crew factory pencil skirt {old} + very jane j. crew inspired necklace {similar} + ampersand necklace c/o carrie grace shop + versona accessories’ drusy cuff + diy bracelet + essie polish

The lovely Carrie Grace opened up some spots in her necklace club — join in April and you’ll receive a gold ampersand necklace like the one I’m wearing above in addition to your monthly necklace. Score!

I’m not sure when layering necklaces became a thing that I do, but I don’t hate it and it’s made me branch out a little with some dainty pieces that I’m currently loving. I hemmed and hawed about purchasing my drusy wrap cuff but am so glad I did – I wear it all the time and always get compliments on it. It’s not currently available online (Versona just launched online shopping *insert praise hands emoji*) but is available in stores in two colors. This navy lace dress is something I picked up with a Charlotte Russe gift card I got for Christmas — I love that the sleeves and very bottom of the hem are open lace but it’s a little short for work or church so I slipped my J. Crew Factory geometric pencil skirt on over it.  I think the mix of texture and pattern is kind of fun but still subtle.

Must Have Monday: What’s in My Gym Bag

April 20, 2015

What's in My Gym Bag

What’s in My Gym Bag by whatnicolewore
I made a big decision on Friday….I joined a gym!
I’ve gone back and forth on it forever! I’ve always been blessed with an awesome metabolism (thank you Lord!), so every other time I’ve gotten on a health kick it hasn’t really stuck because I typically don’t lose weight. I’ve had a lot of life changes in the past year from “breaking up” with my best friends since high school, being diagnosed with anxiety and losing several members of my family.

Ways to Wear: Navy Polka Dot Button Down

March 23, 2015

One of the things I always ask myself when I find a piece of clothing I like while shopping is, ‘What are different ways you can wear this piece with items already in your closet?’

More than anything else, I’ve found this is a way to prevent myself from buying pieces that don’t transition well or can only be worn one way.  I like to get the most bang for my buck and so you can expect to see this ‘Ways to Wear’ series quite frequently.

Target Polka Dot Shirt

I bought this shirt a little over a year ago and never imagined it would be as versatile as it has been. It is sold out, but I’m linking some similar options in case you decide you need one.

1. Patterned Pullover

2. Buttoned Polka Dot Shirt

3. Straight Cut Shirt in Dark Blue/Dotted

Polka Dot Button Down + Target Striped 3/4 Sleeve Tee (similar here) + Versona Accessories Bracelet (similar here) + Sage K and Co Spike Bracelet + Statement Necklace via eBay

The polka dot button down is usually my solution when I don’t know what to wear. In a previous blogging excursion, I participated in a 30 x 30 challenge (30 items of clothing used to create 30 different outfits) and I know if I were ever to do that again, I would definitely use this shirt.  It’s perfect for pattern mixing as seen here.

Target Girls Polka Dot Tee + Shop Adorabelles Striped Vest (similar here) + Target Leopard Print Loafers (similar here)

The double dots are fun and bright and the striped vest is a fun way to pattern mix and still stay warm. This J Crew Inspired vest was purchased from Adorabelles, a boutique that a friend of mine runs.

Polka Dot Button Down + Everly Clothing skirt (consignment store find)

Keeping up with the navy and white theme, I broke out this skirt as a pattern mixing look that color matches.

Polka Dot Button Down + Adorabelles Striped Quilted Vest + Vera Bradley Fringe Scarf in Sun Valley (sold out)

Which is your favorite look?

xo,

Nicole
