Derby Days: Pink for Kentucky Oaks

April 11, 2016

With 25 days until Oaks Day, today’s look is inspired by the annual Friday race that will be here before we know it.  Each year a pink out is held, as I shared in my last Derby post.  I decided to go with a pink fascinator and accessories with a white dress.

Derby Days: Pink for Kentucky Oaks
shop the post: white dress c/o shein {also available in red and blue, under $25} + cut out wedge sandals {on sale, also available in black | also seen here} + fascinator {under $12 with 2 day prime shipping & available in orange, similar option available in more colors} + necklace {also seen here} + clutch {also seen here} + nail polish + lipstick {mixed a little bit of this in the middle} + kylie cosmetics lip liner + blush

Derby Days: Pink for Kentucky Oaks

This fascinator is by far one of my favorites that I ordered: under $12, free two day shipping, and tulle, pom poms, fun netting and feathers?! I was sold! Sadly, it’s sold out in pink, but I’ve linked a similar option that also doesn’t break the bank and shows up on your door step in two days.

Derby Days: Pink for Kentucky Oaks

My pink clutch and multi strain hot pink beaded necklace seemed like the perfect choices in my head so I was thrilled when they matched my fascinator.  I went with a brown-nude matte lipstick that’s super affordable, but I wanted it to appear a little pinker than usual, so I applied it over my Kylie lip liner in Posie K.  I broke down and ordered one of the lip kits a few weeks ago because I was curious after watching some YouTube videos where the quality was said to be much better than the ColourPop mattes I wear quite a bit.

I have to say that I agree with the beauty gurus; the formula of her liquid lipstick isn’t drying which is rare to find with a matte lipstick and has incredible lasting power. Typically, I find myself up a creek without a paddle if I eat after applying matte lipstick. It runs, it smears easily and it needs to be reapplied. Unfortunately, with ColourPop, I’ve found that reapplication leads to a crumbly lip that isn’t very attractive.

Kylie’s lipstick lasts through drinking, eating {non-oily foods}, washing your face, etc. {If you’re wondering how to remove, I use coconut oil!}. She is re-stocking several of the mattes as well as her glosses {which I haven’t tried yet} today at 3 pm EST, if you’re interested in trying to order a kit.

SheIn is one of my favorite places to look for trendy and affordable pieces.  Right now I have my eye on some of these pretty pieces:

How gorgeous is the back of this dress?! While I’m usually drawn to blue, I ended up ordered this in white. I love the way the back attaches together at the top before opening up down to the waist. This dress is lined in the front of the torso portion and the skirt of the dress has a light lining as well.  While the top was fine with the very light lining {I’m wearing this sticky bra}, the lining of the skirt wasn’t enough with my darker skin so I pulled out this mini length slip {under $10, I’m wearing latte}.  If you don’t own a slip, I would highly recommend purchasing one as mine comes in handy pretty frequently during the spring and summer months.

The $15 Tunic

April 1, 2016

I’ve been spring dreaming this week and haven’t been able to resist doing some online shopping for a few bright and colorful new spring items. While I’m ready to break out my brights, the weather is still a bit cooler so finding a good compromise has been a bit of a struggle. I did, however, take my white jeans out for a spin this week, they always make me feel a lot brighter.

What Nicole Wore: The $15 Tunic
shop the post: olive tunic c/o shein {last seen here} + white cami {similar} + white skinny jeans {last seen here} + cognac clog sandals {on sale, also available in black, if in between sizes – size down} + bar necklace {similar, on sale for under $30} + stella and dot ring + old navy mini saddle bag purse {old, similar} + OPI nail polish + NARS blush + colourpop lipstick + tarte foundation

 Currently Crushing On:

What Nicole Wore: The $15 Tunic

This tunic from SheIn is versatile and can easily be both a work and play staple; I love tucking it into a pencil skirt or wearing it with black dress pants just as much as I love it with my white skinny jeans or a pair of denim boyfriend shorts.

These cognac wedges were a must have for me and are surprisingly comfortable. I’m really glad that a thicker heel has come back into style versus a stiletto — my feet are pretty grateful too.

Spring Florals or Stripes? (and a Giveaway!)

March 17, 2016

How about both? This shirt immediately grabbed my attention because it combines my favorite print, stripes, with the classic print for spring, florals.

This post is coming at you a day early because I’m part of a fab giveaway to celebrate Tif from Bright on a Budget‘s 2 year blogiversary! Be sure to read all the way through to see how you can win a gorgeous Kate Spade New York handbag + a $25 gift card to Target!

What Nicole Wore: Spring Florals & Stripes
shop the post: floral striped shirt c/o shein {sold out} + pink chino shorts {also seen here} + braided sandals {old, similar} + pink clutch {similar option under $200 | also seen here} + pink tassel necklace {similar under $25 | also seen here} + karen walker sunglasses c/o DITTO {similar for $12 | also seen here} + matte pink lipstick

While my top is sold out, I did want to share some current favorite tops from SheIn as well as some skirts and dresses that ship in 24 hours if you’re still trying to decide what to wear for Easter:

What Nicole Wore: Spring Florals & Stripes

It’s been so warm lately that it actually made sense to pair this up with shorts and not denim! I love these bright pink chino shorts from J. Crew Factory and they pair perfectly with my hot pink tassel necklace, a Living Social find from a  few years ago.   What Nicole Wore: Spring Florals & Stripes

I’m MAJORLY crushing on these Karen Walker shades, but the price tag is still a little steep for my budget. Shop DITTO allows you to rent endless eyewear and swap out frames as frequently as you’d like. If you think you might be interested in the service, you can sign up with code whatnicolewore at checkout to try one month free.

It’s a Plaid, Plaid World

March 9, 2016

Writing this while watching basketball on League Pass {as always} and sipping on my new favorite tea, Peach Melba. While I’m so happy for warmer weather, my allergies are less than thrilled. I’m trying to be optimistic and convince myself that it’s actually just from the dust at work still….I’ll let you know how that wishful thinking goes.

What Nicole Wore: It's a Plaid, Plaid World
shop the post: black shirt with plaid elbow patches c/o shein {under $10 | also seen here} + jean vest {also seen here} + tassel necklace c/o {also seen here} + white skinny jeans {also seen here} + leopard print loafers {old, similar | also seen here} + blue mirrored aviators {similar, under $15} + lipstick + lip liner {in thirsty}
What Nicole Wore: It's a Plaid, Plaid World

I’ve talked about my love for my denim vest before, but just wanted to share once again how big of a wardrobe staple it is for me. During the warmer months, I seem to rotate back and forth between my denim vest and my utility vest. Both are super versatile, easy to tuck away and great pieces during the transition between seasons.

What Nicole Wore: It's a Plaid, Plaid World

It was pretty much love at first sight with this black shirt from SheIn; I mean hello???? a plaid layer in the back and plaid elbow patches? Sold! I would highly recommend sizing up in this top; I ordered a small and the first time I went to put it on, for these photos, realized that it was seriously tight. Had I sized up to a medium, the placement of the elbow patches would be more of what I envisioned, the low layer in the back would be a little more flowy and overall I’d have more of the tunic look I expected. Size consistency is one thing that can get you when shopping through SheIn so make sure to check the measurements of every item as a small is not always the same small you ordered last month.

Current SheIn Favorites:

The Eiffel Tower detailing on the back of that white top is seriously swoon worthy.

What Nicole Wore: It's a Plaid, Plaid World

I love the bright red plaid and immediately knew I wanted to pair it with blue or white denim….so I went with both options here. I love how my denim vest looks against the black tee; definitely something I see myself coming back to in the future.

Olive You Always

February 22, 2016

Cheers to a new week! I enjoyed one too many Pina Coladas while out at dinner this weekend {oops}, but luckily was able to pull myself together Sunday morning. I also slammed my hand in the door Saturday morning, which led to me indulging in said Pina Coladas.

What Nicole Wore: Olive You Always
shop the post: olive tunic c/o shein {under $15} + white cami {similar} + ny and company black cropped pants {similar} + black scalloped flats {similar here also} + black druzy necklace + fieldcrest wood watch c/o jord wood watches + nail polish + maybelline fit me foundation {in coconut} c/o influenster {I blended it with this foundation to get a closer match to my skin tone} + bronzer {to contour} + blush + eye shadow + eyebrow filler + mascara + liquid eyeliner + blue eyeliner {on waterline only}
Influenster sent me one of the new shades of Maybelline’s Fit Me Foundation in matte; I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to face makeup due to the fact that it’s always super hard for me to find a match. This one is too dark and a little more orange than I liked, but I was able to blend it with the liquid foundation I’ve been using and have it look a bit more natural. The formula was very runny which I’m not a fan of, but I think if I were to continue experimenting with the new shades, I could probably find a closer match. This foundation did last me over twelve hours and stayed matte.

What Nicole Wore: Olive You Always

Okay, let’s talk about this tunic; it’s $14, the perfect shade of olive green, lightweight and slightly longer in the back. The neckline is flattering and has a little dip without going too low. I like the look {and calmed nerves} of having a cami underneath, but you could go without too. I paired my tunic with my black work pants {I swear by the NY & Co clearance racks}, but I can’t wait to wear it with my white jeans or some distressed blue jeans for a more casual look.  What Nicole Wore: Olive You Always

I also wore my Fieldcrest watch to add onto the classic color vibes. I love the light wood and how feminine it looks while also maintaining the ability to go with just about anything in my closet.  My watch came already sized which is a major plus in my book since I have baby wrists that tend to be way too small for lots of watches.
What Nicole Wore: Olive You Always

Disclaimer: Influenster sent me the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation for free for testing a reviewing purposes. SheIn sponsored this post; I love working with companies to bring new content to What Nicole Wore. All opinions are my own.
