March Madness

March 2, 2016

If you’ve followed me for any amount of time, you know that I live and die for basketball season; so it’s both incredibly exciting and sad that March Madness is {almost} here. It’s exciting because it’s the first month that I’m co-hosting the How I Style It monthly link up and this month’s theme is team colors! And of course, it’s sad because I’m going to miss Kentucky basketball when it’s all said and done…just not as much as I did last year.

I hope you’ll join us and share a blog post with your team colors and school spirit; check out the instructions at the end of this post 🙂

What Nicole Wore: March Madness
shop the post: proper manners, raising banners tee + blue geometric blazer c/o {also seen here} + dark blue skinny jeans + cobalt flats with tortoise cap toe {on sale for $80 | also seen here} + black druzy necklace {also seen here} + ring c/o {sold out, similar on sale} + blue bracelet via charming charlie {old} + fieldcrest watch c/o {use code whatnicoleworeFS for free sizing of your JORD wood watch!} + leopard leather purse {exact print sold out, linked in solid, on sale! | also seen here} + nail polish + matte foundation c/o influenster {provided for reviewing and testing purposes} + eyebrows + eyeshadow {favorite palette} + liquid eyeliner + turquoise eyeliner {on waterline} + blush + mascara + matte lipstick
As soon as I heard that the theme for this month’s link up, I ordered this tee. To be honest, I was already looking for a reason to justify the purchase so this really just made the choice easier.  Not long after I ordered this one, it also came out in blue with a white banner — obsessed! {But I don’t need both….or do I?}
What Nicole Wore: March Madness

I love this blue patterned open blazer, especially the fun fringe tassel detail at the hem. I immediately thought it would look super cute over this sassy Kentucky tee while still staying in the school spirited state of mind. And obviously when rooting on the Cats, I always bring some leopard print. This bag is the perfect size for going to games because it holds all the essentials: tickets, keys, money, cards and of course my lucky sloth socks. {Don’t call me superstitious, UK went undefeated all of last season and then the one time I don’t wear the socks!}   What Nicole Wore: March Madness
What Nicole Wore: March Madness

I opted for simple accessories and a bright spring nail. I’ve been loving the OPI New Orleans collection lately and this shade, Got Myself Into a Jam-balaya, is my current favorite. Rings are a newer obsession of mine and this open pearl ring caught my eye pretty quickly; I grabbed a blue stretch bracelet and my wood watch to finish off my accessories. What Nicole Wore: March Madness

That’s a Wrap

January 22, 2016

I wasn’t initially sold on the scarf as a cardigan trend, but the fringe on this scarf makes the cardigan look so chic and I love the warmth of the blanket shawl. Bonus: this one has super fun colors too!

What Nicole Wore: That's a Wrap
shop the post: fringed plaid blanket shawl c/o lookbook store {on sale for $31} + hm striped top {similar, under $13 | also seen here} + pink tassel necklace c/o rubenabird + blue skinny jeans + clarks shoes nude and black flats + tarte cosmetics foundation, lip stick & liner, mascara and blush + benefit cosmetics eyebrow filler + lorac cosmetics eyeshadow + becca cosmetics highlighter + bare minerals bronzer + nail polish
What Nicole Wore: That's a Wrap

To pull out some of the fun colors in my wrap, I pulled out my purple and neon pink tassel necklace from Rubenabird – it’s the perfect pop of color to any outfit, but I also love the black and gold option too, if you’re more into neutrals. The shop is currently closed, but will be reopened January 27th!
What Nicole Wore: That's a Wrap

I paired the blanket wrap with my long sleeve striped tee {did you catch it in this week’s 7 items, 9 outfits post?} that I wear allllllllll the time.  Having this neutral patterned piece makes for a fun print mix with the chunky blanket wrap.
What Nicole Wore: That's a Wrap

The width of this shawl is the perfect length to wear as a cardigan – not too short, not too long and still long enough to belt if you wanted to.  What Nicole Wore: That's a Wrap

Undercover

January 18, 2016

I had this outfit all planned out in my head, but it wasn’t until I put it on that I started getting major “I’m a spy” vibes. Whatever, I’m into it. This open-front duster coat immediately jumped out to me; I love the light tan color and the silhouette reminds me of a trench without the bulk.

What Nicole Wore: Undercover
shop the post: apricot drape open-front duster coat c/o lookbook store {under $30!} + striped turtleneck dress via macy’s {old, similar} + leopard tassel necklace {similar} + old navy black lace up flats {exact sold out, similar linked and under $30 version here | also seen here} + hat via francesca’s collection {also seen here} + rebecca minkoff clutch {exact print sold out | also seen here} + opi nail polish + tarte cosmetics lipstick & liner + lorac eye shadow + benefit eyebrow filler + tarte cosmetics blush + tarte cosmetics foundation + becca cosmetics highlighter + bare minerals bronzer
What Nicole Wore: Undercover

The duster coat is made of a microfiber making it extremely lightweight and not bulky but still warm {think cardigan warm, not coat warm.} It’s a waterfall type hem, so it’s asymmetrical and longer in the front than the back.  What Nicole Wore: Undercover

I wore it over my striped turtleneck dress that I’ve had for 5ever; it’s super comfy and a great cut.  The only real “knock” against it this time of year, is that it has cap sleeves, so pairing it under this was perfect.
What Nicole Wore: Undercover

I decided to go neutral throughout and grabbed my marble print clutch {such a great Nordstrom Rack find!} and my black lace up flats. Lace up’s have been such a big trend with shoes lately; currently majorly crushing on this floral print pair. What Nicole Wore: Undercover

Striped Down

January 11, 2016

Cozy sweaters are a must this time of year and what’s better than one that’s striped? -whispers- Nothing. This one’s white body features blue stripes and a blue neckline plus it’s slightly longer in the back #winning Obviously, I couldn’t resist.

What Nicole Wore: Striped Down
shop the post: nautical striped pullover sweater c/o lookbook store + white skinny jeans {similar here in more sizes | also seen here} + gold bib necklace {similar under $15!} + dolce vita tall riding boots {similar | also seen here} + j crew factory herringbone vest {exact sold out, similar linked and here for $30 | also seen here} + tarte foundation, lipstick & liner, mascara and blush {in tipsy} + benefit eyebrow filler + lorac eyeshadow + bare minerals bronzer + becca highlighter + opi nail polish
I paired it with white skinny jeans to give a fresh winter white look, but it could definitely be worn with leggings too.  I constantly feel like I get into the winter months and get blindsided with cold weather so this sweater immediately was on my must have list as I know it’s something I’ll be able to wear all the time.

What Nicole Wore: Striped Down

My herringbone vest seemed like the perfect way to top off this sweater, it’s just starting to get cold {read: ugly} here so when I shot these pictures I could still get away with a vest, but I think we’ve finally reached “wow everyone looks like a marshmallow” weather here in Louisville. I know I’ve said it before but this vest is so easy to wear; it can be paired with solids or prints and a wide variety of colors – it’s extremely versatile. While this exact one is sold out, I’ve linked two dupes that are both under $30. With investment pieces, I always try to look at how often I’m going to be able to wear the item, what it goes with that’s already in my closet {while I’d love to buy all new clothes, all the time, the responsible portion of my brain knows that’s not happening}, as well as if it can carry between seasons. This piece definitely passed all of these prerequisites when I purchased it a few years ago and the price per wear is crazy low at this point.
What Nicole Wore: Striped DownI know people have mixed opinions on white after Labor Day and white jeans in winter; while I haven’t gotten as much wear out of this pair of skinny jeans lately, I do still like the crisp look they provide and can’t wait to wear them more frequently. I liked that with this sweater, everything paired with this outfit really stood out and made a statement.

What Nicole Wore: Striped Down

I bought this statement necklace last year and was kind of disappointed with it when it arrived because it just wouldn’t lay right. I made some adjustments to the chains a couple weeks ago and it looks a lot better. It’s also available in silver here for under $8. I love Baublebar‘s pieces but sometimes balk at the prices; stalking the net for a better deal is usually something I end up doing. What Nicole Wore: Striped Down

Blue Geo Blazer with Lookbook Store

December 9, 2015

Super excited to show you my second look with Lookbook Store. This blue open front blazer pretty much called my name; y’all know I love some royal blue and the fun geometric pattern + tassels made it official for me. Yet somehow when it arrived, I was stumped. And annoyed with myself. “Nicole why would you order a piece that screams summer when you have to style it in a way that’s seasonally appropriate?!” Add expletives and you have my exact berating of myself.

Luckily, over the span of a couple days I made some progress in the outfit brainstorming and came up with this look that lets the blazer’s design speak for itself and still doesn’t seem out of season.

What Nicole Wore: Blue Geo Blazer
shop the post: blue geometric open-front blazer c/o lookbook store + ivory sweatshirt tee {similar | also seen here} + olive skinny jeans {also seen here} + blue beaded tassel necklace {similar, also seen here} + cobalt flats {also seen here} + wool hat {also seen here} + nail polish + lip color + blush + mascara + eyebrow filler

Shop my Lookbook Store favorites:

What Nicole Wore: Blue Geo Blazer

I opted to go with a simple white tee, but added a little bit of mix by choosing a white tee that has a textured front and provides a little more warmth since it’s sweatshirt material. So good. If you don’t have a sweatshirt tee in your closet, you need one. This one features a 2.5″ split in each side, which honestly I normally don’t like, but this tee is long enough where everything is still covered and I don’t have to constantly worry that my stretch marks and skin are exposed. #PraiseBeWhat Nicole Wore: Blue Geo Blazer

I opted for olive skinny jeans; I’m not sure why I avoided colored denim for so long, but I’m glad that fall 2015 brought us back together in stylish harmony. When everything olive started popping up, I wasn’t sure it was for me, but I really do like how, similar to my beloved navy, olive acts as a neutral but still provides color.
What Nicole Wore: Blue Geo Blazer

The cobalt in this printed blazer led me directly to my cobalt and tortoise flats; while they run a little more than I typically like to spend on flats, Clarks is my go to brand for comfort. There’s nothing worse than not being comfortable and having achy feet. I usually splurge on a new pair each fall and then keep my eye on eBay and Amazon for new pairs being resold; you can find usually find floor models and last season’s shoes at a reasonable {under $50} price.

This hat has been my fave since I bought it, I still don’t consider myself a “hat person” so I have to admit, that I’m a little lost on when and where you’re supposed to wear these. Do I just throw this on to go to Target? Can I go through racks at Goodwill with this on? I’m not quite there with the confidence level yet so it remains an around the house and occasionally to work item. What Nicole Wore: Blue Geo Blazer
