Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick Review

August 26, 2016

I’m excited to share three lipstick colors from Make Up For Ever‘s brand new Artist Rouge line.  Influenster sent me three shades to review so I’m sharing how I applied and wore all three today on the blog.

This bold classic red shade was right up my alley.  I lined and filled in my lips with this red lip liner, it’s super smooth and makes a great base.

This second shade is Rose Wood and this dusty rose really surprised me. While I love this natural looking color typically the shade doesn’t show well on my skin tone, but this one has enough of the pink tone in it that it’s able to show well.  To give it some help, I lined and filled with the Posie K lip liner from Kylie Cosmetics; I love these liners and use them regularly because of how smoothly they apply and the very pigmented color.

The last shade that I received is this lilac shade, Taupe Violet.  Let me be completely honest — lilac lipstick isn’t something I’d buy on my own because it intimidates me.  And it still scared me a little when I first put this shade on.  I used two shades of shimmer shadow from my Naked palette to adjust the color closer to something that wasn’t so dramatic.

Red Scallop Dress

June 1, 2016

This red number from SheIn was such a romantic addition to my closet with the deep red hue and the flirty fit and flare.  Speaking of flirty, today I’m linking up with some blogger friends to share how we dress up for summer weddings!

Although wine tends to be a color associated with fall fashion, I love how wine clothing looks on a tan so I couldn’t pass it up. Plus the scalloped neckline? In love! The back is also a v-neck cut with scallops.  The dress is a thicker fabric that is forgiving if you eat too much wedding cake {been there} and has a side zipper.  I ordered a small in this dress.

What Nicole Wore: Red Scallop Dress
featured in this post: shein: red scallop dress c/o + forever 21: suede wedges {also seen here} + target style: gold glitter clutch {old, similar | also seen here} + carrie grace shop: ampersand necklace c/o {similar | also seen here} + fossil: tan leather strap watch c/o {also seen here} + charming charlie: cocktail ring {old} + DIY bracelet + maybelline: vivid matte liquid lipstick c/o influenster + tarte: tinted moisturizer + becca: highlighter + bare minerals: bronzer + tarte: blush + tarte: lip liner + nyx: setting spray
What Nicole Wore: Red Scallop Dress

Influenster sent me Maybelline’s new Vivid Matte Liquid lipstick to try out in two different colors and this Rebel Red shade had me feeling all the heart eye emojis.  The lipstick is super easy to apply; the wand is flexible which I love because it makes it easier to follow your lip liner when applying.

What Nicole Wore: Red Scallop Dress

The scent is meh, not unbearable but not my favorite — I’d much prefer an unscented lipstick.  This shade is very bold, but definitely not matte.  The vox box suggested kissing a tissue after applying to achieve a matte finish and while it definitely does give a more matte look, I didn’t like the way it took away from the pigmentation.  I plan to use these lipsticks as glossy finish lipsticks, which have actually grown on me the past couple months.

What Nicole Wore: Red Scallop Dress

I love this gold ampersand necklace and think it’s perfect for weddings as two people join as one {as corny as that sounds typed out.}  I wore an oversized and colorful cocktail ring as well as my turquoise and gold bracelet, a neutral leather watch and a gold glitter clutch.

Review: Maybelline Fit Me Foundation

March 23, 2016

It’s not exactly a big secret that I’m not a fan of drugstore foundations; it’s not from a snobby, “I’m better than that” standpoint because if I could, please know that I would, but comes from the fact that Target/Walgreen’s/CVS/Wal-Mart don’t usually have makeup artists walking around, ready to help you find your perfect match.

And sure enough, when Influenster sent me my first bottle of the Maybelline Fit Me! Foundation, it was a bust. While the shade is much too dark, I have liked using it around the outside of my face as a bronzer.  Influenster was kind enough to send me a second bottle of the foundation and I wanted to share my thoughts on it as well as some of the beauty products I’ve been using lately.

Review: Maybelline Fit Me Foundation
featured in this post: gorgeous moisturizer + colourpop ultra satin lipstick + stila liquid eyeliner + blending sponge + nars blush + tarte lip crayon in thirsty + maybelline fit me foundation in toffee c/o influenster + maybelline fit me foundation in coconut c/o influenster + tarte waterproof brow pencil + nyx matte finish setting spray + becca shimmering skin perfecter in opal + colourpop ultra satin lipstick + tarte clay blush in tipsy + urban decay naked palette
I used one of my unused blending sponges for this picture because they look gross once they’ve been used — just keeping it real.  I like to dampen my blender before using a “dotting” motion to smooth out my foundation and make it look more natural.
Review: Maybelline Fit Me Foundation

While this shade was a closer match to my skin tone, I found that the color was a little too orange and streaky in some places and just a touch too dark.  It’s most obvious in the picture I grabbed from Snapchat further down in this post, but the foundation does not match my neck at all — and that’s after I blended a bit into my neck.Review: Maybelline Fit Me Foundation

I’ve used this foundation for a few days so I could compare it to the Tarte 12 Hour that I usually wear.  While the Maybelline claims to be a matte and poreless, I found myself getting shiny a few hours after application.  The formula is very runny while Tarte feels more like a gel or thick primer.  I stayed away from liquid foundations for awhile because runny tends to mean messy in my experience. Sure enough, as I was getting ready to take these photos, I found foundation leaking out under the cap of one of the bottles.

I will say that for $8 {and knowing that Ulta frequently runs BOGO 50 promos on Maybelline products}, this foundation is pretty good. Unfortunately, I’m pretty particular about finding a foundation that fits me a little more than this one did and I’ve learned to be used to paying a little more to have that peace of mind.  {Ultra, Sephora and Bare Minerals are all examples of beauty stores that will help you find a match for a non drugstore product, no purchase necessary!}

Still, if I were ever in a jam, forgot my makeup and needed something quick and cheap to get the job done, I’d be willing to pick up this foundation over previous drugstore brands I’ve had.
Review: Maybelline Fit Me Foundation

I started to get low on my Gimme Brow a few weeks ago, so I decided to give Tarte’s brow pencil a try while Ulta was rewarding 5x points on their products. I love that the pencil twists up {like their lip pencils} and is very buildable. I typically “outline” my brow before going back in with lighter, feathery strokes to fill in any areas where my eyebrow may be a bit sparse.  This also has a spooly brush on the opposite end so you can brush your eyebrows into place prior to penciling and soften up any strokes that look too harsh afterwards.  Review: Maybelline Fit Me Foundation

Loving this color so hard! I ordered three of the ultra satin lips when they first came out and didn’t get this color after seeing some beauty bloggers saying that it was too bright.  I’ve been looking for a bright pink lipstick so when I placed my last order, I ended up putting this one in my online cart. It’s a hot pink with blue undertones and in the tube, I wondered if I was going to look clown-ish.  While it’s definitely a bold color, I think it’s perfect for spring.
Review: Maybelline Fit Me Foundation

{Please tell me I’m not the only person that has an iPhone photo album full of unpublished Snapchat selfies of different lipstick shades for personal reference….}

You can see here the very obvious difference in color between my face and neck. I don’t mind blending a little foundation into my neck, but full out applying it is something I don’t want or need to do.Review: Maybelline Fit Me Foundation

Thank you to Influenster for allowing me to try out the Maybelline Fit Me Matte Foundation! I was provided two bottles of the foundation by Influenster for testing and reviewing purposes.

Live Radiantly with St. Ives

January 4, 2016

Happy 2016! I hope you had a great time ringing in 2016; I got hit with a cute little winter cold, so I’ve spent the first couple days of 2016 in a less than glamorous manner — no sequins, just sweatpants and lots of NyQuil.  I know they say how you spend your New Year dictates how you’ll spend the rest of your year, but I’m ignoring that because I’m just not about that.

I’ve never been a huge resolutions person, but I do want to continue striving to become the very best version of myself in 2016. As we get to the close of each year, I try to think about something that I want to work on. In the past, I’ve focused on curating healthier friendships, learning to be objective when my anxiety typically effects decisions I make and not letting myself get lost in the crowd or peer pressured into feeling like I need to be at a certain point because “everyone else is.” I think that this year, I really want to work on controlling negative thoughts; I’m always my harshest critic, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I think working on less negative self-talk as well as adopting a more positive attitude are going to be the two things I really strive to get better about in this new year.  Overall, I just want to be “brighter” going forward and while I know that’s something that’s going to take work in different areas, I’m hoping it’s attainable.

But what about the physical side of being brighter? I dread the winter months like you wouldn’t believe. Snow? Dry skin? Painfully cold fingers and toes? Chapped lips? Having to wear multiple layers to the gym? None of it’s appealing to me. Thankfully, everyone’s favorite drugstore brand knows that and created some great new products to solve the winter woes.

What Nicole Wore: Live Radiantly with St. Ives
shop this photo: st. ives refresh & revive pear nectar and soy body lotion c/o influenster + nyx setting spray in dewy and matte finish + makeup organizer via at home {recreate with this plus this}
I was first introduced to St. Ives by my mom during the height of my lengthy acne bout; I’ve talked about it before on here, but I suffered from pretty intense acne during my pre-teen and teen years and it killed my self-confidence. While nothing about acne is fun, I really hated the scarring that came along with it. One of the products I used to help turn over the dead skin was St. Ives Apricot Scrub. This was a scrub I used religiously during my teens so I was really excited when Influenster asked me to try out some new products from St. Ives’ new line.

Putting on lotion after I shower has never been something I liked doing. I hate when lotion is thick and then I have to struggle to get pants on or feel greasy when I go to bed. What immediately struck me about the Pear Nectar and Soy lotion was how lightweight it is. It quickly absorbs into the skin and but still feels moisturizing. This is much more up my alley and with all the extra showering I’ve been having to do with hopping back into my normal gym routine, I need to be able to get some moisture back into my skin.

shop the photo: st. ives even & bright pink lemon and mandarin exfoliating body wash c/o influenster + st. ives nourished & smooth oatmeal scrub & mask c/o influenster
The exfoliating body wash has been the product from this box that I’ve found myself reaching for the most since receiving this box. The scent is not super strong, but still citrusy, I always have been drawn to citrus scented lotion, body wash, perfume, etc. so this wash is perfect for me. The exfoliating wash and mask from this Vox Box are safe for sensitive skin, which made me wonder if I’d be underwhelmed by their exfoliating ability, but the body wash might be the “just right” of exfoliating body scrubs for me. It pulls all the oil and dirt off without being painful or make you wonder if you’re accidentally going to scrub off a part of your body. {I’m looking at you Lush Ocean Salt!}

What Nicole Wore: Live Radiantly with St. IvesI put the Oatmeal Scrub + Mask on after I got home from the gym one night and let it sink into my skin before stepping into a hot shower. I like to use masks this way from time to time to really give the product time to sink in and also tighten my skin a little. When I went to rinse out my conditioner, I went ahead and scrubbed the mask off. I felt pretty meh about this one; I look for my face scrubs to be a little rougher — my skin’s a lot better than my teen years, but I still like to feel like I’ve pulled all traces of oil, dirt and dead skin off my face before I put on moisturizer. {Also, lipstick! A lot of time the leftover lipstick “residue” will give me minor breakouts and really dry lips}

I still felt like there was a lot of “old” skin left on my face. Overall, this is the product I was least impressed with. I would rank the Lush scrub I’ve been using the past nine months ahead of this, but if you are looking for a gentler exfoliator this may be a product you’d appreciate!
