Embroidered Tassel Top

August 10, 2016

We’re coming up on the end of summer posts {#wahhh} but today’s might be one of my very favorites! This top immediately caught my eye with the swoon worthy multicolored embroidery and colorful tassels around the bust and arms.

Embroidered Tassel Top
featured in this post: shein: embroidered tassel top c/o {under $25, wearing XS} + distressed jeans {similar option} + fringe wedges + jord wood watches: fieldcrest watch c/o + kendra scott: elisa necklace in silver druzy c/o + golden ring + sunglasses + fossil: emi saddle bag c/o + metal lipstick + scünci rubber bands c/o

This leather crossbody from Fossil is absolutely gorgeous; the leather is very soft and such a great color for fall. The brown leather option has the trendy tassel in the center of the bag and features stud detail around the flap.  It also is available in black; instead of the studs that bag has really fun braided leather detail.  A good leather crossbody will always be a fall necessity for me and this one will definitely be on repeat.Embroidered Tassel Top

This bunch of sunflowers always catches my eye during the summertime, so when I drove past them last week and actually had my camera with me, I quickly parked my car and jumped out to snap some photos.  While my style normally isn’t very boho centric, I love this fun top and really want to see if I can get away with wearing it tucked into a suede skirt for fall.

Embroidered Tassel Top

While most of the photos I take aren’t frame worthy as they’re essentially glorified selfies for the blog, this photo gives me all the heart eyes! I ended up catching just the right lighting and stopped taking photos of myself {briefly} to mess around with some of the different settings and ended up with this shot.

Embroidered Tassel Top

To be a real boho babe, I paired my top with my tried and true Elisa necklace {fave Kendra style #sorrynotsorry} and my JORD wood watch.  I love the color of this one because it really is a piece you can wear year round.

With the heat wave in full effect in Kentucky, I’ve been trying to keep my hair up as much as possible, but wearing a topknot every. single. day. can get tiring so I pulled out some of the new goodies that Scünci sent me and threw my hair up into these quirky pigtail buns that made me feel eccentric and also twelve years old…in the best way possible.

Fringe Tunic

August 4, 2016

When Fossil reached out to me about participating in their new fall campaign, I knew I wanted to pair my new bag and watch with this fun fringe tunic.  The blue and white is right up my alley and the fringe is a great way to stay on trend for fall.

Fringe Tunic
featured in this post: shein: fringe hem tunic c/o + distressed jeans {similar option} + rubenabird: turquoise tassel necklace c/o + fossil: watch c/o + the peach box: gold ring c/o + fossil: leather crossbody c/o + nail polish c/o sally beauty + matte lipstick
Fringe Tunic

I tend to forget about tunics; I know so many people love to style them with leggings for fall, but I still am not fully on the leggings as pants train {I know guys, I know!}  Since I’m a big believer in wearing items and styling in a way that you feel comfortable in {the best style tip I can give you is also the simplest}, I paired this fun tribal inspired tunic with distressed jeans for a laid-back weekend look.

Fringe Tunic

The crossbody makes this the perfect outfit to run errands or head to brunch in.  The studs and tassel detail on this new style from Fossil make it a piece that’s trendy, but I really love that the deep color of the leather makes it a bag that you can use for years.  I’ve been needing to replace my mini saddlebag that I snagged years ago, so I’m really happy to add this sturdy, genuine leather bag to my collection just because I know it’s one that I’ll constantly reach for.

Fringe Tunic

Despite what everyone else will try and tell you, summer is not over {I did buy my first sweater of the season this week though #yikes}, so I pulled out my turquoise tassel necklace to add some more color into this look.  I get asked pretty frequently if I actually use watches or just wear them as an accessory; I’m a huge fan of watches, y’all!  Love them. Seriously. I know it’s the 21st century but I’m still the girl that prefers a physical planner to an online calendar. Pulling my phone out to check the time or date isn’t always appropriate depending on setting, so having a watch on makes my life a lot simpler.  I also love watches that have date windows because I can never tell you what day it is and frequently need to date things.

Tara Lynn’s Colorblock Top

July 21, 2016

For whatever reason I’ve been in a tired, ‘please don’t make me get out of bed,’ ‘do I really have to?’ kind of funk this week and I’m pretty much ready to wrap this week up, put a bow on it and start all over.  Why can’t I just snuggle up in bed and pretend it’s the weekend every day?

Tara Lynn's Colorblock Top
featured in this post: Tara Lynn’s Boutique: Got the Blues top c/o + dressbarn: white skinny jeans {sold out, love the similar pair linked} + Forever21: nude strappy sandal + Charming Charlie: Boho Beaded Y Necklace c/o + Charming Charlie: B&B Stretch Bracelet c/o + Charming Charlie: Open Ring c/o {sold out} + Fossil: Vintage Muse Tan Leather Watch c/o + Stella & Dot: Maylee Ring + Michael Kors: Mini Selma Handbag + Elizabeth and James: Watts sunglasses c/o + OPI: nail polish + ColourPop: matte lipstick
Tara Lynn's Colorblock Top

I’ve added so many new pieces of jewelry to my wardrobe lately; like I said in this post, with the temperature {and even worse the humidity} going up, up and away lately, I’ve been drawn to easy, lightweight outfits that I can breathe in {and at times peacefully sweat in…life.}  I’m not a huge fan of statement necklaces this time of year because they can get heavy and just seem like a lot once the real temperatures and humidity of the day start to show up.  This blue Y necklace has a super lightweight chain that doesn’t get sticky with sweat or tangled in hair and has a cute gold chain tassel at the end as well as a couple of pave beads to add some sparkle.  Rings are not the most summer friendly jewelry item for me {#sweatyhands} but this open gemstone ring is so cute and the perfect colors for me.

Tara Lynn's Colorblock Top

This top is perfect with it’s bright summer hues and very light and breathable fabric.  It could easily be styled with jean shorts or cropped pants if the thought of wearing jeans is too daunting right now.  I love the colorblock detail but the red-orange stripes really drew my eye and are such a fun touch for summer.  Plus it matches perfectly with my bag and now I can trick people into thinking I have my life together.

Gold and mint seem like a match made in heaven.  I love stretch bracelets and they’re super to easy to wear alone or stack if you have baby wrists like me.

Polka Dot Pattern Mixing

June 24, 2016

We made it to the weekend! I finished my first full week at my new part time job as a Loft girl and am sharing a fun print mix of stripes and polka dots that’s the perfect summer outfit for the office.

What Nicole Wore: Polka Dot Pattern Mixing
featured in this post: loft: polka dot ruffle tank {40% off with code JUICY} + loft: stripe skirt {40% off with code JUICY} + forever 21: block heel sandal + kendra scott: silver druzy necklace c/o + kendra scott: bracelet set c/o + fossil: tan leather watch c/o + madewell: tote + colourpop: matte lipstick + nars: blush + tarte: eyebrow pencil
Playing with patterns is one of my favorite ways to get the most out of my wardrobe and rejuvenate classic pieces, but can be overwhelming for some.  One of my top tips is to select items within the same color scheme.  This striped skirt first caught my eye because of the unique tulip hem detail.  Tulip hems normally aren’t my thing; extra flowy fabric makes my hips look wider something I tend to avoid as much as humanly possible.  Luckily this skirt is made of a stretchy {and thick} material that doesn’t add any width to the hips plus it sits higher with emphasis placed on the waist.  I wear petite sizing in LOFT pants, but like to stick to the misses sizing for skirts and shorts.

What Nicole Wore: Polka Dot Pattern Mixing

This skirt has tons of styling possibilities {so stay tuned to see some upcoming remixes with it}, but this brand new polka dot top was too fun to resist when we unpacked it earlier in the week.  The ruffle detail is super cute and the thicker tank sleeves make it office appropriate but also easy to throw on with jeans for the weekend or a mid-week dinner out.  I ended up getting this top in XS Petite {I’m 5’6 for reference} and am wearing it over a white camisole as the shell does run on the sheer side.

What Nicole Wore: Polka Dot Pattern Mixing

I’m always an advocate for accessories, but over the past year or so I’ve leaned towards adding jewelry pieces that are easy to mix and match with other jewelry as well as my full closet.  This bracelet set from Kendra Scott features three bangles in gold, silver and rose gold with delicate engraved and pave detail. While I’m pretty solidly on team gold now, for a long time I had a pretty strong affinity for all things silver; having mixed metal pieces makes it easy for me to mix and match my jewelry pieces without really having to think about it.

I originally wasn’t so sure about this watch when I first got it, but the classic tan leather goes with everything {including my cognac tote} and extra bonus, it features the date which I honestly never can actually tell you without pulling out my phone.

What Nicole Wore: Polka Dot Pattern Mixing

I skipped Friday Favorites last week, but have some really good ones for ya today to make up for it, I promise!

  • This pizza charm necklace is giving me life, especially since I’ve been craving allllll the unhealthy food lately.
  • I cracked up reading Elsie’s account of finding the perfect “blog wall,” because same.
  • Having an interest in fashion + style and living in the South makes it pretty much impossible to not know who Kendra Scott is, but this article about how she got her start in design and how that eventually led into jewelry design {as well as the more recent changes that company has made} was absolutely fascinating to me.
  • How fun is this bright statement necklace for summer? It’s on sale right now so snag it while you can and pair it with a bright maxi dress! Want to see more fun sale picks? Scroll up the sidebar to my current Summer Sale Loves!

Lace Wrap

May 11, 2016

I finally managed to shoot pictures during golden hour and while I wish I could claim that I worked hard and ad a strategy around it….I just happened to get home and take these pictures at the right time for the perfect lighting. It wasn’t until I started editing a couple days later that I realized how incredible they turned out.  You could say I’m now a believer in the golden hour, but you won’t catch me waking up early to catch the sun rising any time soon.

What Nicole Wore: Lace Wrap
featured in this post: francesca’s: lace wrap c/o + romwe: blue cami {also seen here} + sts blue: distressed jeans {also seen here} + target style: leopard print loafers {old, similar | also seen here} + elizabeth and james: sunglasses c/o DITTO {use code whatnicolewore to try one month free of charge} + fossil: watch c/o {also seen here} + sage k and co: spiked bracelet {also seen here} + j. crew: pave link bracelet {budget friendly version, under $30 | also seen here}

What Nicole Wore: Lace Wrap

I’ve been loving this new watch from Fossil; the tan leather strap can actually be changed out which is really cool and gives you a little more versatility.  I love that the watch features windows that tell you the day of the week and month, none of the other watches I currently own have these features.  Overall, it’s a really timeless piece {pun intended} that can be paired with all the items in my wardrobe.  This watch can also be engraved, which would be perfect for any graduates you may have in your life.  I’m a firm believer that watches are a classic, must have accessory; I know lots of people feel like phones have replaced them, but I’m always looking at my wrist for the time over my iPhone.

What Nicole Wore: Lace Wrap

Francesca’s was kind enough to send me this lace wrap a couple months ago and I have to admit, I was pretty confused about how to style it.  Is it a beach coverup? Is it a poncho?  I wanted to wear this tank but still be a little more covered so I pulled it out and wore it as a wrap; I really like the lace detail especially how it contrasts with my distressed jeans.  Mixing textures is one of my favorite ways to create juxtaposition in an outfit.  This wrap is easy to throw on and didn’t snag easily — a major plus in my book.

What Nicole Wore: Lace Wrap

These Elizabeth and James shades weren’t my favorite which is part of what I love about the DITTO program; I was able to try them out for a few days and then emailed my stylist and let her know that I was ready to send them back and try something new.  Don’t forget that you can sign up for the optical or sunglass monthly subscription and swap out designer frames as frequently as you wish.  My code {whatnicolewore} lets you try your first month free of charge — you can cancel at any point!
