How I Style It: Shorts

August 3, 2016

Happy Wednesday and welcome to this month’s installment of How I Style It!  I cannot believe that August is already here, although I do have to share that I’m super excited about all the fresh and colorful school and office supplies that are showing up everywhere. #TypeAProblems

This is also the first post featuring pictures from my new camera {ahhh hopefully I’ll remember to share more about this development once I get settled into using it & life isn’t as crazy} so bear with me as I get acclimated.

What Nicole Wore: Elephant Shorts
featured in this post: shein: pom pom off the shoulder top c/o + LOFT: elephant print shorts {on sale, sizes are selling out!} + charming charlie: silver ring set c/o + colourpop: metallic lipstick + anastasia beverly hills: eyebrow kit {great value for this set & the gel keeps your brows in place all day} + vera bradley: palm print phone case {old, similar} + opi: nail polish c/o sally beauty supply
What Nicole Wore: Elephant Shorts

I hadn’t gotten a chance to wear this pave ring set from Charming Charlie until this past weekend and it is safe to say that I’m in love. At only $10, it’s a complete steal too; I love that you can wear the rings separately or altogether depending on what level of accessorizing you’re going for.

What Nicole Wore: Elephant Shorts

As soon as we decided to go with shorts for this month’s blog hop, I knew I wanted to style these elephant ones.  I’ve worn them quite a few times since I ordered them, but hadn’t had a chance to style them on the blog yet.  They have a 4″ inseam which I love; I’m at the stage of my life where I don’t want to wear booty shorts but also have no desire to wear bermuda shorts so this is a good compromise for me.  I paired these whimsical shorts with this lightweight off the shoulder top.  The bell sleeves and pom poms are super on trend for summer and like I said, it’s lightweight so wearing it doesn’t make me want to lie my entire body over an air conditioning unit.

Irresistible Me Hair Extensions

August 1, 2016

It’s August friends!  Did you catch the big Instagram roundup that I posted over the weekend? It has all the details of everything that I’ve posted for over a month.  Today’s post is a little different than normal, I’m sharing all the details on my new Irresistible Me hair extensions.

What Nicole Wore: Irresistible Me Hair
featured in this post: irresistible me: 22″ extensions c/o + charming charlie: elle shift dress c/o {only $35} + tassel necklace c/o + gold bracelet c/o + pink howlite ring + leopard clutch {under $50, similar here} + lipstick + nail polish
What Nicole Wore: Irresistible Me Hair

I’ve always wanted long hair, but can’t commit to the upkeep of actually having long hair.  It’s not an uncommon dilemma and most of us know that during the summer months, long hair can be one big, sweaty annoyance.

What Nicole Wore: Irresistible Me Hair

I was so excited when Irresistible Me reached out to me because the clip ins are super easy to put in {I put these in myself} and can quickly be taken out too.  I ordered the 22″ Silky Touch extensions in natural black and the match was perfect.  Irresistible Me has tons of resources to help you pick out the correct shade as well as decide what length you want.  One of the best things about these extensions is that they send one clip in sealed separately from the rest, that way you can make sure the set you ordered is the right match.  If it’s not, Irresistible Me lets you ship the package back and get the right color. What Nicole Wore: Irresistible Me Hair

My set was 200 grams of hair and nine pieces plus the test piece; I have super thick hair so wearing all the clip ins is a bit much for me, but if you’re on the other end of the spectrum and struggle with thin hair, the is a great way to add some volume.  The clip ins are real hair so definitely treat them like you would your own hair: use heat protectant when applying heat, gently comb and brush them out and store them neatly.  My {high maintenance} hair always needs high heat to get straight or take a curl, but when I tried to curl all the hair at once, it was a little too hot for the extensions so be mindful of that too. My exact clip ins are 25% off right now; Irresistible Me also has a premium option with the Royal Remy set, the new Tape In extensions, faux ponytails and hair tools. What Nicole Wore: Irresistible Me Hair

Thank you to Irresistible Me for partnering with me on this post.  All opinions shared are my own.

Tara Lynn’s Colorblock Top

July 21, 2016

For whatever reason I’ve been in a tired, ‘please don’t make me get out of bed,’ ‘do I really have to?’ kind of funk this week and I’m pretty much ready to wrap this week up, put a bow on it and start all over.  Why can’t I just snuggle up in bed and pretend it’s the weekend every day?

Tara Lynn's Colorblock Top
featured in this post: Tara Lynn’s Boutique: Got the Blues top c/o + dressbarn: white skinny jeans {sold out, love the similar pair linked} + Forever21: nude strappy sandal + Charming Charlie: Boho Beaded Y Necklace c/o + Charming Charlie: B&B Stretch Bracelet c/o + Charming Charlie: Open Ring c/o {sold out} + Fossil: Vintage Muse Tan Leather Watch c/o + Stella & Dot: Maylee Ring + Michael Kors: Mini Selma Handbag + Elizabeth and James: Watts sunglasses c/o + OPI: nail polish + ColourPop: matte lipstick
Tara Lynn's Colorblock Top

I’ve added so many new pieces of jewelry to my wardrobe lately; like I said in this post, with the temperature {and even worse the humidity} going up, up and away lately, I’ve been drawn to easy, lightweight outfits that I can breathe in {and at times peacefully sweat in…life.}  I’m not a huge fan of statement necklaces this time of year because they can get heavy and just seem like a lot once the real temperatures and humidity of the day start to show up.  This blue Y necklace has a super lightweight chain that doesn’t get sticky with sweat or tangled in hair and has a cute gold chain tassel at the end as well as a couple of pave beads to add some sparkle.  Rings are not the most summer friendly jewelry item for me {#sweatyhands} but this open gemstone ring is so cute and the perfect colors for me.

Tara Lynn's Colorblock Top

This top is perfect with it’s bright summer hues and very light and breathable fabric.  It could easily be styled with jean shorts or cropped pants if the thought of wearing jeans is too daunting right now.  I love the colorblock detail but the red-orange stripes really drew my eye and are such a fun touch for summer.  Plus it matches perfectly with my bag and now I can trick people into thinking I have my life together.

Gold and mint seem like a match made in heaven.  I love stretch bracelets and they’re super to easy to wear alone or stack if you have baby wrists like me.

As Seen on Instagram: What I Wore

June 26, 2015

Happy Friday! Hope you had an awesome week. I feel like I spent a lot of mine looking over to do lists and thankfully crossing things off.

milly dress (on sale) via rent the runway, available for rentals + sunglasses {on sale} + kate spade clutch {similar} + tahari scallop flats {similar} + ashiana london necklace c/o rocksbox + watch {similar}

This was my first experience with Rent the Runway and I loved it! Next week, I’ll have a whole post dedicated to the company and my experience at their Chicago store, if you have any questions about it!

I picked this dress out for the wedding I attended last weekend — I loved the colors and picking out accessories was easy and fun. My clutch is actually my Kate crossbody minus the strap. This Ashiana London pendant got returned to Rocksbox this week but got quite a bit of wear; don’t forget you can sign up for the service and start with a free month when you use code whatnicoleworexoxo at checkout.

-I’ve been compensated by Rocksbox in the form of two free 3 month subscriptions. All opinions are my own.-

As Seen on Instagram: What I Wore

June 5, 2015

I cannot believe it’s already June! I’m currently taking a long weekend in Chicago — I’m catching up with a good friend and heading to the IG meet up tomorrow (yay!). Be sure to follow along on IG if you’re not already: @whatnicolewore.

Let’s look back at this past week:

charming charlie bracelet {old, similar} + jcrew pavé link bracelet {similar} + watch via groupon {available here in green and gold}
This watch is one of several purchases I made over Memorial Day weekend <insert monkey covering eyes emoji>. I was doing SO well and then Sunday and Monday happened. I was scrolling through Groupon Goods looking for items that might be good side gifts for Father’s Day and all the summer birthdays I have coming up when I bought this. For myself.

It’s so witty though, how could I pass it up?!

ann taylor tank {thrifted, super old, love this sequined option} + roz & ali black jeans {last seen here} + nail polish
I’m pretty good about keeping my closet organized, but I’m horrible about taking clothes to the dry cleaners so I usually have a pile going for months that eventually ends up going and then I am shocked when it gets back because I forgot I had all these fun items. I’m also super cheap and typically don’t buy clothes that are dry clean only.

I grabbed this sweater tank from my local Clothes Mentor a couple years ago; they were having a sidewalk sale so this pretty, sequined and beaded tank was only $3. Sold! It’s been super muggy, hot and gross in Louisville since I got back from vacation and I’m allowed to wear sleeveless tops at my new job so I pulled this out and paired it with black jeans for a dressed up, casual look.

target kids leopard print shirt {old, similar | last seen here} + j crew factory chino shorts {retail version} + target style wedges {old, similar | last seen here} + statement necklace via eBay {similar | last seen here}
target kids leopard print shirt {old | last seen here} + j crew factory chino shorts {retail version} + target style wedges {old, similar | last seen here} + statement necklace via eBay {last seen here} + nail polish
Talk about stunting for the ‘gram. I took full advantage of a relaxing Sunday and stayed in my sorority tee until around 3 when I finally got dressed. I love pairing leopard print with bright color so I pulled out my chino shorts and a loud statement necklace. Easy peasy.

gap factory tee {similar, on sale | last seen here} + hm cardigan via thredUP {similar | last seen here} + hm chino pants {last seen here} + longchamp bag {thrifted | last seen here} + tassel necklace via livingsocial
I wanted to add some color to my outfit since it was so dreary outside. I like the amount of white in this striped tee from Gap Factory — I really like that it was less than $2. I grabbed my coral chino pants and played around with which cardigan to wear since it was a little chilly before settling on the royal blue.

I originally planned on going straight to the gym from work so I loaded up my Longchamp with all the little things I was carrying and my smaller purse.

francesca’s collection bracelet {not available online} + francesca’s collection druzy bracelet + michael kors watch
One of my favorite things to do is play with jewelry so I’m super glad I get to do that at work. I’m so in love with druzy pieces right now, it isn’t even funny. Currently on my wish list: this one that appeared in my Rocksbox awhile back and I talked myself out of keeping, this stunning ring, and this piece that’s on sale but I’ve been refraining from buying.

Jesus be some willpower (or a winning lottery ticket).

target style button down {old, this year’s version} + loren hope necklace c/o rocksbox + shop minted bracelet {sold out} + shop versona bracelet + nail polish
I love mail days, but I especially love Rocksbox mail days. I’m admittedly too curious and impatient to wait until the set gets to me, so I usually check my account and see what my stylist is sending my way. I’ve been over the moon obsessed with Loren Hope’s line lately but the price is a bit steep for me so I love that I can wish list them and keep them on loan as long as I want. My tiny wrists make my shy away from getting bracelets and my pierced ears closed up years ago but here are some of my favorite pieces by Loren. She really does such a great job of incorporating color into her pieces and I think so much bright goodness is what really draws me to the line.

I paired this box’s neutral colored necklace with my seahorse button down and gold and pink accessories.

old navy tank {old, similar} + hm palm print skirt {old, similar here and here} + charming charlie ring + kate spade new york bag via nordstrom rack {love this one} + nail polish
I could not for the life of me decide on an outfit. I really wanted to wear one of the skirts I got in the mail from J. Crew Factory but boo hoo, neither fit me in a way I liked. I eventually ended up digging out both of these items that I haven’t worn in forever. The skirt is a tulip cut that always ends up flying up on windy days and the top was so wrinkled, I wasn’t sure if my iron would even be able to save it. (Note to self: buy steamer.)

Luckily, my poor ironing skills got most of the wrinkles out and the weather was pretty calm so I didn’t flash anyone. #Winning

Hope y’all have had a great week. I’m off to eat more donuts for National Donut Day.

Xo, Nicole
