March 15, 2018

Lord knows I love changing up my lip color; for me, makeup choices, especially, lips is another way to accessorize.  Being that lip products are my favorite, I was super excited when Urban Decay sent me all of the shades of their new Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lipgloss.  {Yes, all of them!}  Seeing as this is a new product, I thought it would be fun to share my first impressions and a makeup look featuring the Urban Decay lipgloss.

Packing Up Spring Beauty Favorites with Vera Bradley

March 15, 2017

In the spirit of spring break, today I’m sharing some spring beauty favorites and how to pack them up with Vera Bradley.  I’ve been using Vera’s cosmetic bags for years now; my typical go to is the Medium Cosmetic!  I got a change to try out a newer style, the Travel Cosmetic Set, which now comes in seven colors.

With as many lipsticks as I have, keeping them organized is really important.  This acrylic makeup organizer has pull out drawers and you can purchase more of the drawers as your makeup stash grows.  I have a couple drawers for lipsticks and use the rest for palettes and blushes.  One drawer also acts as a home to my samples and travel size goodies.

This part of the cosmetic set features a magnetic snap closure and eight different sized elastic bands to hold brushes.  As you can see, I use mine for brushes as well as tubes of liquid lipstick and eyeliner.  The lining can be wiped down with a rag or wipe so you don’t have to worry about makeup getting all over.

When it comes to liquid lipsticks, I tend to switch between ColourPop and Kylie’s lip kits.  I like Kylie’s mattes better because I think they last the longest, but ColourPop has a much wider variety of colors and I love their satin formula.  I recently decided to try some of LimeCrime’s mattes; the Velvetine lipsticks are incredibly pigmented but wear quickly and don’t have much lasting power.  The darker shades I ordered were patchy when applied and started wearing pretty quickly which was a huge bummer.  While the lipstick’s sell for $20, shipping is not free for domestic purchases under $50 and I feel like I could get a better product for comparable pricing if not cheaper.  Can’t say I’ll be buying anymore LimeCrime lipsticks.

Gift Guide: Beauty Gifts Under $50

November 22, 2016

We’re two days away from Thanksgiving which means the holiday shopping season is almost here!  {Pretty sure I’m still scarred from last year.}  I like to start shopping now so that I can order online, ship it to myself, wrap it and then ship it out to my various family and friends.  While lots of people wait until Black Friday or Cyber Monday to shop, I like to get my orders in before things start selling out and take advantage of the pre-Black Friday sales.

Today, I’m sharing some of my favorite under $50 beauty items; I’ve included a pretty good variety of price points so some of these can be stocking stuffers or be put into a basket of goodies while others are just really great deals!  I’ll talk about some of them below, but simply click the item in the collage to shop.

Beauty: LipSense Review

November 17, 2016

It’s not exactly a secret around these parts that I love a good red lip.  And while I do try and switch things up by bringing in the occasional hot pink and wine colored lipstick, reds are kind of what I’m drawn towards.  I was excited when Becky from byBMG asked if I’d be interested in trying out LipSense because while I’d heard of it, I hadn’t tried it.

Beauty: LipSense Review
in this post: lipsense starter kit c/o Lips That Last With Becky + cream sleeveless turtleneck c/o + arrowhead pendant necklace + tortoise sunglasses + leather watch c/o + eyeshadow
LipSense is a two part lip color system.  The starter kit comes with three different goodies: the lip color of your choice {because every gal needs options}, their moisturizing gloss in glossy finish {better known as Glossy Gloss}, and Oops remover {which is credited with taking color off immediately.}

So first confession — I’m not a glossy girl.  I ca handle creme finish. I like a good satin.  Glossy finishes give me horror film level flashbacks to middle school when my mom would ONLY let me wear clear gloss and on occasion the NYC glitter glosses.  You know which ones I’m talking about. $2 at Target/WalMart and not something any of us wants to repeat.  Since I have such an aversion, I got ahead of the game and ordered the matte gloss, which Becky does have in stock as I type this.

Everything comes sealed so that you know it’s fresh, just for you and this is where the fun begins.  The lip color is thin and liquidy; it reminded me a lot of my Benefit lip tints but with much more pigmentation.  You’ll apply three layers of the color and allow about five seconds between each layer to dry.  I did notice a tingling while applying the color; nothing painful or lasting.  After you’ve tripled up, apply your gloss of choice — there’s quite a few different finishes, including some with metallic sheen that are perfect for the holidays!

Because I am 100% dedicated to keeping it real in this space, I didn’t go for a safe color when choosing the lip color for my kit.  I went with the boldest.  Those of you that love red lips know the struggle of red lipstick.  It looks great.  But it smears, it moves, it bleeds.  Red lipstick is the rowdy teenager of lip colors.  You love it because you saw it’s beautiful beginnings.  You’ve already made it this close to adulthood so you’re not giving up at the first act of defiance.
