How Impostor Syndrome Makes Me Feel & Snow Day Errands

January 28, 2019

Ready for a real life outfit?  Look no further! This colorblock cardigan combo is what I wore for some snow day errands recently.  While I’m not into cold weather, I’m a big fan of colorful sweaters like this one!  Best of all, it’s only $27 and I know I’ll be able to wear it a ton of different ways.  I’m also getting real about impostor syndrome and dealing with it.

How Impostor Syndrome Makes Me Feel & Snow Day Errands | The Danger of Fake It Til You Make It

How many of you have been told you “fake it until you make it?” Me too.  And while the sentiment is a good one, “believe you can do it, until you do,” I think in some ways its hurt me.  I always feel like an impostor.  I’m the first to discount my own strengths and wins…”I got lucky,” “it was a weird coincidence,” etc.  When I was reflecting on the last year to get ready for 2019 during my friend Colene’s challenge, I realized I really have to get better about doing this.

How Impostor Syndrome Makes Me Feel & Snow Day Errands | Working On Negative Self-Talk

If you’ve been reading the blog for awhile, this isn’t anything new but I am horrible when it comes to negative self-talk.  It’s something that I talk about with my therapist A LOT, because breaking the habit is hard!  Being able to identify when I’m being unfair with myself has been huge but this year I want to get better about journaling through some of my negative self talk and also taking the time for a daily gratitude journal.

I’m trying to work on putting more thought into what I’m grateful for with the hope that doing so puts me into a more positive headspace.  {Sidenote: I’ve tried this the past few years and fizzled out after awhile.  I just downloaded the 365 Gratitude app with the hope that it will help keep me accountable.}  So if you’re someone that smiles while quietly thinking, “I’m not good enough,” “I don’t belong here,” “I don’t deserve this,” “I can’t believe I’ve tricked everyone into thinking I’m good at XYZ,” etc. 1. I hear you and 2. This should be the year you believe in yourself for real.

How Impostor Syndrome Makes Me Feel & Snow Day Errands | The Outfit

This week is looking like it’s going to be one of the coldest in a long time in Louisville.  While I fully intend to hibernate, I’ve been trying to be better about getting out more lately.  Last week, I threw this long, colorblock cardigan on over a basic long sleeve tee. This cardigan looks great with your favorite pair of blue jeans, spanx leggings, olive skinny jeans, etc.  Here I paired it with some burnt orange moto jeggings.

Sugarfix, Baublebar’s line for Target has released new gems and I’m loving this tortoise pendant necklace; it’s super easy to throw on over a sweater or basic tee.  My earrings are a tortoise resin and howlite hoop that I got from Work the Metal.  {My favorite local place to snag earrings.}  One of the items on my winter must have list is these Sperry duck boots.  They’re fleece lined and keep your feet SO warm during the negative temps and snowy days.

I struggle with this, too, and doing Vision helped so much! I love this outfit: it’s so bright and perfect for these dreary days.
