Pleats and Thank You to the Maxi; How to Wear a Bodysuit

The bodysuit is BACK, y’all.  I won’t front; I fought this trend because I hate the idea of inevitably having to get naked just to go to the bathroom, but bodysuits with snaps have redeemed this trendy item.  I’m sharing how to wear one for the summer months ahead with a pleated maxi skirt.

Pleated Maxi Skirt | What’s the Skinny?

This pleated maxi skirt from LOFT caught my eye with the variety of colors and geometric print combined with pleats.  Maxi skirts {and dresses} are always a go to for me during the summer months just because of how flowy and comfortable they are — especially in the heat.  After seeing how many different hues were in this printed maxi skirt, I knew that I would be able to mix and match it with so many of the pieces already in my closet.

I’d planned to rock this full length skirt under a tied up chambray shirt, but decided to take a risk and wear it over this white, off the shoulder bodysuit. This is my very first one piece — not counting all the ones I wore for dance and gymnastics classes.  The polka dots on the mesh that wraps around the shoulders is such a fun detail and having the ruffle that covers the bust takes away some of the scariness of wearing a form-fitting piece.  {This one does run a bit small, I sized up one size, and still couldn’t get it buttoned closed.  Size up two sizes!}

Mixing and matching had kind of become my MO so I broke out my striped ball drop earrings.  I love that this pair is SO lightweight, affordable {only $13!} and striped.  Truthfully, I’ve been wearing them a ton lately; they’re a fun statement piece without being too loud or over the top.

    This is beautiful! That skirt is gorgeous and so colorful. I’ve always thought bodysuits were kind of a weird trend, but this I kind of like!

      Haha I totally get what you mean! I still don’t know that I’m 100% sold on them but I like how they look with skirts.

    I LOVE these photos – so colorful! I just recently bought a bodysuit myself against a few of people telling me I would hate it because of the “logistics”. However, I love how fitting they are! They really compliment a woman’s shape I think. I absolutely love the polka dots. I never would’ve guessed it was a body suit! I also wouldn’t have thought to pair it with a pleated skirt but it goes beautifully. Fashion bloggers like yourself teach me style. 🙂 Love it!
