Back to School Essentials

August 18, 2016

Some people get excited about fall clothes this time of year, but I get excited for fresh school supplies. I can’t help it; having a day planner and keeping things organized gives me so much peace of mind, something I’ve learned to just go with over time.

I can never remember the date whether I’m filling out paperwork at work or turning something in at school so watches with date windows are my favorite. I picked out this one from Daniel Wellington for fall because of the perfect dark brown leather strap and pretty blue hands.  It has roman numerals to indicate the time and is super quiet, which I love.  While I have horrible hearing when people are actually talking to me, I can almost always hear a watch ticking.

Back to School Essentials

I snagged this Jadelyn Brooke notebook from one of my favorite boutiques, Adorabelles, when they were having a clearance sale.  My love for donuts is pretty well documented so it’s not exactly a surprise that I immediately ordered this. {Speaking of Adorabelles — how freaking cute is this top?! Someone please buy it so I can live vicariously through you.}

Let’s talk about the real MVP of keeping me on track lately though; let’s start with some back story.  I’ve been eyeing leather planners for a couple years now.  This one in particular was one that I kept an eye on for awhile.  Unfortunately, so many leather day planners are smaller so that they can be tossed in a small purse {a great feature!}, but I have a tendency to write just about everything under the sun down so I’ve always been willing to sacrifice the professional look of the leather for more room to write.  I was so excited when Vera Bradley released the Sycamore Agenda back in July because it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for!  At $98, it’s a great deal for a genuine leather planner too.

Back to School Essentials

Each month has a two page spread that shows the month overview and then goes week by week with space to write for each day.  I’ve tried keeping multiple agendas in the past so that I had one for blog things and another for work, school and my personal life.  It’s ended horribly so I knew I wanted to have a larger sized planner with plenty of room for me to keep track of scheduled posts, social media stats, homework assignments and finals, as well as bills and my work schedule.  I switched over to this planner in the middle of July and have been so pleased with it.  The leather is so soft and a great quality.

It has a beautiful gold zipper and inside there is an elastic loop to keep a pen inside.  One of the things that I really do love is that while the planner runs to December of 2017, you can pop out these pages and purchase a planner refill at your local office supply store to continue using your day planner. {Granted the pages may not be as cute as these ones!}

Red Scalloped Mini Skirt

August 17, 2016

They say the first step is admitting you have a problem so here we go. My name is Nicole and I am obsessed with the Olympics. It doesn’t matter if I have somewhere to be at 8 am the next day, I will stay up until midnight to finish watching swimming, gymnastics, track and field, basketball, etc.

And let’s be honest, when it comes to events that only happen every four years — this one is the top dog. We deserve the Summer Olympics if we have to deal with everyone we know {and their mothers} expressing their political opinions on Facebook.

Red Scalloped Skirt
featured in this post: shein: pom pom striped tank c/o + j crew factory: button front scallop skirt {also available in olive and navy} + cat footwear: olive boots c/o + rebecca minkoff: love crossbody + francesca’s: tassel bracelet {similar} + kendra scott: bracelet c/o + red bandana + opi: nail polish c/o + colourpop: pink lipstick + anastasia beverly hills: eyebrow filler + stila: liquid eyeliner

check out these great new arrivals from SheIn:

Red Scalloped Skirt

Summer always means lots of red, white and blue outfits and the Olympic games being here just means the outfits are even more justified.  This scalloped mini skirt sits at the waist, has pockets and has super cute brass buttons down the front.  It also comes in navy and olive that are perfect for fall.  I find J Crew Factory sizing to run big.
Red Scalloped Skirt

I love the pairing ankle boots with skirts especially as we get closer to fall. When Caterpillar reached out to me about checking out their new additions for fall, I really wasn’t sure what to expect as I really knew them as a company that makes construction equipment.  The company also produces clothing and work boots and has expanded their footwear line to include more casual footwear for life without a tool belt.

I picked out this new style, the Olive Boot.  It’s available in four different colors, is made with genuine leather and features lace up detail around the back of the ankle.

Red Scalloped Skirt

I love tanks in the summer and always try to add some that are blouses instead of just the traditional knits so that I can look presentable and dressed up throughout the summer without melting and having to deal with pit stains {#theworst}.  My love for everything blue and white is well documented here so I won’t wax poetic about how much I love the blue and white vertical stripes, but I couldn’t get over how cute these red pom poms were.  When I was trying to decide how I wanted to style it first, I thought it would pair perfectly with my new scallop hem skirt.  To add the perfect, “Yes I have watched every day of the Olympics” touch, I also tied my red bandana in my hair for some Rosie the Riveter vibes.

Checked Shirt

August 15, 2016

I’ve been hunting for a white blazer for a couple years now and just hadn’t been able to find one that I loved, but a couple weeks ago I stopped by the Express Factory store for the first time and found this one. It was on clearance for $17 and will definitely be a nice piece to transition between seasons with.

Checked Shirt

I’d been on the prowl for this specific item, because I love how crisp the white blazer looks and also because I knew how great it would look paired with a tee and jeans.  It really gives a simple outfit a more refined finish.  I’m hoping to wear it soon with a bright chartreuse tee and then a hunter green one in the fall.

Checked Shirt

Currently crushing on: this beautiful cognac leather tote from Vera Bradley.  While it comes in a “small” size option as well that would be perfect if you’re looking for a tote to carry your essentials in with an iPad or e-reader, I opted for the bigger option.  I’m definitely a ‘throw it in the bag’ kinda gal so having room for any and everything I could possibly need is one of the many ways to my heart when it comes to handbags.  This tote has room for my laptop, notebooks and folders and the perfect size for school or the office.  I also love that the front zip pocket can comfortably fit a planner.

Checked Shirt

To create a more dramatic ponytail, I pulled my hair up into a pony and then got one of my Irresistible Me hair extension weft that has seven clips. If I were putting all of my extensions in, this is the one that is the widest and gets placed across the crown of my scalp.  I took two of the center clips and hooked them into the base of my ponytail.  Wrap the loose ends of the weft around your pony and then take a small section of your extensions and wrap that around the base of your pony to cover up the ponytail holder and the top of the hair extensions. Voila!  My extensions were curled from the last time I’d worn them but you could do this with straight hair as well.

Embellished Skirt

August 11, 2016

I love a ladylike silhouette and this embellished skirt from Chicwish I’m featuring today really takes the cake.  {Birthday pun intended!} Plus let’s be honest, a fancy skirt is so much more fun than a birthday suit, am I right?

The navy satin applique flowers are even more stunning in person and look beautiful on the nude overlay of this skirt.  I paired it with this black off the shoulder crop top that gives me major flashbacks to getting my composite photos taken during my sorority days.

What Nicole Wore: Embellished SkirtI’m wearing my Irresistible Me extensions here to add to the elegant look; they are super easy to put in myself and can be styled a few different ways.  Next week, I’m going to share how I used the Silky Touch extensions to create a longer ponytail.What Nicole Wore: Embellished Skirt

My crystal jewelry from Modern and Chic was the icing on top of this look.  The necklace and matching bracelet are such a great way to dress up a little black dress or complement a formal outfit.
