Beauty: LipSense Review

November 17, 2016

It’s not exactly a secret around these parts that I love a good red lip.  And while I do try and switch things up by bringing in the occasional hot pink and wine colored lipstick, reds are kind of what I’m drawn towards.  I was excited when Becky from byBMG asked if I’d be interested in trying out LipSense because while I’d heard of it, I hadn’t tried it.

Beauty: LipSense Review
in this post: lipsense starter kit c/o Lips That Last With Becky + cream sleeveless turtleneck c/o + arrowhead pendant necklace + tortoise sunglasses + leather watch c/o + eyeshadow
LipSense is a two part lip color system.  The starter kit comes with three different goodies: the lip color of your choice {because every gal needs options}, their moisturizing gloss in glossy finish {better known as Glossy Gloss}, and Oops remover {which is credited with taking color off immediately.}

So first confession — I’m not a glossy girl.  I ca handle creme finish. I like a good satin.  Glossy finishes give me horror film level flashbacks to middle school when my mom would ONLY let me wear clear gloss and on occasion the NYC glitter glosses.  You know which ones I’m talking about. $2 at Target/WalMart and not something any of us wants to repeat.  Since I have such an aversion, I got ahead of the game and ordered the matte gloss, which Becky does have in stock as I type this.

Everything comes sealed so that you know it’s fresh, just for you and this is where the fun begins.  The lip color is thin and liquidy; it reminded me a lot of my Benefit lip tints but with much more pigmentation.  You’ll apply three layers of the color and allow about five seconds between each layer to dry.  I did notice a tingling while applying the color; nothing painful or lasting.  After you’ve tripled up, apply your gloss of choice — there’s quite a few different finishes, including some with metallic sheen that are perfect for the holidays!

Because I am 100% dedicated to keeping it real in this space, I didn’t go for a safe color when choosing the lip color for my kit.  I went with the boldest.  Those of you that love red lips know the struggle of red lipstick.  It looks great.  But it smears, it moves, it bleeds.  Red lipstick is the rowdy teenager of lip colors.  You love it because you saw it’s beautiful beginnings.  You’ve already made it this close to adulthood so you’re not giving up at the first act of defiance.

Flatlay, Four Ways: Slouchy Tunic

November 16, 2016

Today I’m sharing four different ways to style this dolman tee from The Mint Julep Boutique.  These tees come in a ton of colors and are a great closet staple because of how versatile they are.  Typically they are only offered on Sunday but I’ve teamed up with Mint Julep Boutique to offer them to my readers at a discounted price every day!  These are oversized so be sure to size down.

Flatlay, Four Ways: Slouchy Tunic
featured: the mint julep boutique: cobalt slouchy dolman c/o {ONLY $24} + black elastic waist skirt c/o {UNDER $50} + faux leather booties with tassel detail c/o + mint beaded statement necklace
I love these skirts because of how easy they are to throw on with a basic or printed top.  Here I went with my comfy tee, a bright colored necklace and fun booties.  You can break out the patterned tights for a fun pop of print too.

When it comes to easy fall uniforms, I love being able to throw on a vest over a basic tee and some simple booties. This cognac leather pair goes with so much in my closet and have a block heel that makes it easier for me to walk on.

Event Recap: World of Vera Bradley at Macy’s

November 14, 2016

Last weekend I hosted a World of Vera Bradley launch party at Macy’s Tuttle Crossing in Columbus, Ohio.  There are nine Macy’s locations throughout the country that have these mini Vera Bradley shops set up within the handbag department; Lexington friends, Fayette is one of the locations!  There are a ton of great new offerings this season so I wanted to share some of those as well as what a World of Vera Bradley looks like with you all today.

World of Vera Bradley at Macy's
featured: leather duffle + plaid tote + scottie dog scarf
How dreamy is that duffel? I love that it has the classic shape that I associate with Vera Bradley’s signature travel pieces but is more structured since it’s constructed out of the high quality leather the company has added to its line.  The new plaid print is absolutely gorgeous {styled a bag in the print in this post} and reminds me so much of the well known Burberry plaid.

Event Recap: World of Vera Bradley at Macy's
featured: puffin sweater + navy buffalo check vest + abalone stone necklace {on gold chain} + vera bradley: sagebrush satchel c/o + matte lipstick + foundation + eyebrows + nail polish
For our launch party, we had a DJ as well as a fun photo booth station where everyone could share the reasons that they love to be a girl.  Columbus is about a three hour drive from Louisville so while I didn’t have time to explore the whole city, I did do my research beforehand and picked out a donut shop to stop at to celebrate National Donut Day.

White Scallop Top

November 6, 2016

The past couple of weekend’s have felt like a complete blur; last week I worked Sunday-Thursday, was a bum Friday, woke up at 7 Saturday to drive up to Columbus to host the World of Vera Bradley launch party at Macy’s {more on that later this week!} and spent Sunday at work and then my sorority’s Founders Day events.  Busy, busy which means I’m super grateful for Daylight Savings Time.
