IG Roundup

October 12, 2015

Happy Monday! Sorry for being so MIA the second half of last week, I came down with a cold and being under the weather really wasn’t conducive to blogging…at all. Looking forward to some fresh new content this week! But first, let’s recap Instagram — I’ve worn some pieces that I really love lately and think you will too.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
nail polish + old navy sweater + vera bradley umbrella + hunter rain boots

A cold and rainy day seemed like the perfect time to try out a Toasted Graham Hot Chocolate. 8/10, would recommend. How cute is this gingham umbrella? Really brightens up a gray day.

This sweater forever. It come in lilac too, so get on it.

None of the potential outfits I had pulled for this day were looking right when I put them on, so I wasn’t even remotely surprised when this sweater looked horrible untucked. While I was standing in my closet, brainstorming on what in the world I could wear to work, I threw on my jean jacket to see if it would hide the awkward tucked in waistline and fell in love with this outfit! I’ve said it a ton, but I absolutely love when I think up a new way to wear something that’s already in my closet.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
hm tortoise sunglasses {similar} + striped shirt via sam’s club {similar | also seen here} + target style utility vest {also seen here} + vera bradley scarf {also seen here} + charlotte russe distressed purse {similar}

Did you catch this look on the blog? It’s one of my favorite posts this month!

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
old navy plaid shirt {similar | also seen here} + j crew factory camel sweater {also seen here} + old navy purse {also seen here} + clarks shoes blue suede flats {similar | also seen here}

Finally broke out the camel sweater and once again got a million compliments on it. I’m not sure what it is about graphic sweaters, but I swear everyone is drawn to them. Also, I find them so fun to wear so that’s a plus too. Black jeans have been heavy in my feed lately — mostly because I’m allowed to wear them to work and I like to keep my phone on me during the day so I can track my steps. #StillTooCheapForAFitBit #WheresSantaAt

I really am going to make an effort to diversify my bottom half, but with the yo yo-ing temps, black jeans have been my go to.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
old navy top {also seen here} + isaac mizrahi for target blazer {thrift find, similar} + plaid blanket scarf + hm chino pants + hunter boots

I found this blazer back in March and did not realize until I took this photo that it was navy and not black. Now it feels like everything has changed. I like this blazer because it’s a soft blazer and having a more flexible structure makes it a lot easier to wear in a casual look.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
francesca’s plaid shirt {also seen here} + nail polish + old navy purse

This shirt is super comfy and I love the navy in this plaid.  It does run big so be sure to size down if you’re between sizes or want a more fitted look.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
old navy gingham shirt {similar | also seen here} + buffalo plaid vest via jane deals {under $40! | also seen here} + diy boot cuffs c/o my mama {similar} + riding boots {similar} + kate spade new york purse {consignment find, similar (under $35 budget version here) | also seen here}

This is pretty much a verbatim outfit repeat from earlier this year, but I love the black gingham and buffalo plaid too much to be scared by something as silly as outfit repeating.  My mom made me my first pair of boot cuffs proving that she is actually listening when I complain about silly things like paying $14 for tubes for my boots, but I’m going to have a super fun giveaway featuring boot socks coming to my Instagram this month, so stay tuned!

I’m not a big purse collector; I get why people love them, but I’ve always been more likely to splurge on clothing or a comfy and cute pair of shoes, but this Kate Spade bag has pretty much been my everyday bag since I bought it back in March. I actually did not own a black bag prior to this so I talked myself into splurging a bit on a purse that I considered a wardrobe staple for years to come. Finding it at a consignment shop made the deal a lot sweeter, obviously.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
target style houndstooth popover {thrift find | also seen here} + j crew factory wrap skirt {similar} + vera bradley lunch box {linked in pink}

This wrap skirt had quite the journey. I ordered this during JCrew Factory’s Memorial Day sale; I always struggle with JCF skirt sizing because my hips measure in one size and my waist measures in another. I went with the larger size and as soon as the skirt got to me it was beyond apparent that it was the wrong move. See: wrap skirt hanging mid thigh…yeah it was bad. Unfortunately, this skirt was a final sale piece so I finally took it to the tailor a few weeks ago and it’s now wearable (four months later…). I’ve told you a million and one times that cobalt is my fave but seriously – how stunning is this shade?!  Currently eyeing: this wrap skirt and this houndstooth shirt, the contrast is amazing & I love Brooks Brothers button downs.

I have a million and one Vera lunch bags (probably closer to 5-10) from when I worked in a store and this one is for sure my favorite! It’s a larger size which means more snacks (yassssss) and space for my Vitamin Waters (I hate having to take “lunch size” drinks to work — trying to stay hydrated). I also like that it’s all plastic so I’m not as concerned about spills, setting it on the floor and whatnot. It’s pretty wide and tall in comparison to Vera’s other lunch bags so I can fit my salad and freezer tupperware into the bag without a problem.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
old navy cardigan {similar} + statement necklace {similar} + charlotte russe striped dress {similar | also seen here} + clarks ankle boots

I’ve linked a longer version of this dress in case you don’t want to be like me and constantly spend time pulling your dress down

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup

All of this quilted goodness made it’s way out of storage and into my closet.  I’ve yet to buy a new quilted vest this season, but am feeling okay about that for the time being. I did add a utility vest into my wardrobe and it’s already become a closet staple for me. I’m looking forward to thinking up some new outfits with these beauties and getting more wear out of them.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
burgundy and navy blanket scarf {also seen here} + adorabelles striped vest {similar} + old navy twill shirt {also seen here} + roz & ALI white jeans {similar | also seen here} + druzy tassel necklace c/o modern and chic boutique {also seen here} + payless shoes riding boots {this year’s version}

So much goodness in this flatlay; the blanket scarf is great, because it’s square shaped and therefore so much easier to style. These boots are four years old and still the best $40 I spent on a fall staple, they lasted forever and are super comfortable…think about four years of me working eight hour shifts in retail during the holidays and wearing these every day.  This combo is one that I can’t wait to wear when it’s a little more appropriate to wear layers.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
j crew factory knit shirt {similar} + michael kors purse {similar | also seen here} + roz and ALI jeans {also seen here} + hunter boots {similar here, budget friendly version here | also seen here}

I’ve been a little under the weather and haven’t been in the mood to break out the tripod (or write a blog post), but finally got around to it today. This look is pretty simple and consists of basic pieces most of us have in our closets: a striped shirt + blue jeans that you love + a cross body purse that can hold your wallet and keys.  Rain boots may or may not be a staple depending on where you live. I linked a few different styles of boots above — including a budget friendly version that I actually own in hot pink.  Paying full price for Hunter boots was out of the question for me last year, but with all the rain, snow and slush we experienced, I quickly realized I needed something other than riding boots that I could go outside in. The Target version is reasonably priced, comes in a wide variety of color (for real how drool worthy are the coral and mint – so much yes!) and have a very familiar look if you like Hunter boots. They do run big, so size down.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
francesca’s short marble necklace {similar | also seen here} + adorabelles buffalo plaid shirt with polka dot cuffs {similar | also seen here} + express bodycon skirt {thrift find, similar | also seen here} + diy boot cuffs {similar} + riding boots {this year’s version, on sale under $50, similar | also seen here}

I wanted to wear something warmer but not too hot on Saturday; work is always either too hot or too cold, no happy medium unfortunately. Having lots of layers is always the way for me to go, so I brought a duster length cardigan in my bag and was ready to go in this outfit. This short, marble necklace has been a piece I’ve found myself reaching for a lot; lately I’ve been more into delicate pieces.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
target style denim vest {similar, wearing kids version | also seen here} + francesca’s gingham dress {similar | also seen here} + clarks booties + nail polish

This throwback look is one of my favorites, look at all these classic pieces! Gingham dress + denim vest + simple cross body + perfect fall nail color. This dress  is one of my very favorites and was an awesome end of summer clearance find from Francesca’s.

What Nicole Wore: Plaid About It
shop the post: pink plaid blanket scarf {similar | also seen here} + gray tee with lace shoulder detail {also seen here} + francesca’s navy skirt {similar | also seen here} + charming charlie turquoise cuff {similar | also seen here} + nail polish

This weekend flew by SO fast which made the fact that I’ve been ahead of schedule with my blog shooting so much more appreciated because (yikes) I didn’t do any shoots for the blog this weekend. Luckily, I have a couple days off this week so I can work that in.
What Nicole Wore: Plaid About It

I did manage to sneak in some shopping this weekend and bought some new riding boots during Nordstrom Rack’s Clear the Rack promo! I never think to look at their website for stores, but their reminder email yesterday was about shoes and I opened it thinking there wouldn’t be anything good in my size. Lo and behold, boots a plenty! I stopped myself from buying a super cute pair of Sam Edelman flats, but did end up buying four pairs of boots in different colors and sizes — with the FULL intention of only keeping one or two pairs. One of the things I love about ordering for Nordstrom Rack is free shipping for $100+ and the fact that you can return at any Nordstrom Rack. It makes it a lot easier to buy something like shoes or a purse knowing that you can just take it back if it’s not what you’re looking for.

I also got some time to try out this S’mores Bar recipe that I’d been wanting to make for awhile now. It was so easy and equally delicious.

Also while we’re talking about what I did this weekend: Have you stocked up on blanket scarves? We had some freaky winter like weather here in the Ville and I was glad I had mine to wrap around my ears, neck and hands. For the next couple days, there’s a promo running on these scarves: they’re normally $28.99, but are only $14.99 right now! I grabbed the black and white one and the mint and brown one — not sure if I’m gifting or keeping them yet.

What Nicole Wore: Fall Mixer
shop this post: hm tortoise sunglasses {similar} + vera bradley scarf {also seen here} + target cargo vest {similar | also seen here} + striped tee via sam’s club {similar | also seen here} + roz & ALI blue jeans {similar | also seen here} + charlotte russe crossbody purse {similar} + nail polish + stella dot ring {also seen here}

It amazes me that some people are such accessory haters when they are often the completing part of the outfit. Working in retail means I’ve learned how to sell these pieces, but I often think back to something an old manager said to me.  “Every day when someone gets dressed, they put on one item that they know will get them compliments.”  At first, I was a little lost at her logic, I mean helllllo I want to be complimented on my whole outfit every single day -insert sassy emoji-. But when you think about it, there’s always one piece that takes an outfit from this + this to a finished look that looks intentionally put together.
What Nicole Wore: Fall Mixer

In this outfit, I’d say that piece is the polka dot scarf.  The pattern play is eye catching and the black scarf with white polka dots is opposite of the white shirt with black stripes. Pattern mixing is a concept that people either love or hate and there are certainly ways to do it at every comfort level. This graphic from History in High Heels is a good starting point if you feel completely overwhelmed with how to start. Matching the colors in the prints is key to making the mixing look more intentional than ‘I got dressed in the closet with the lights off.’    What Nicole Wore: Fall Mixer

I linked a ladies size utility vest with sequin lined pockets above, but I am actually wearing the Target kids version. As usual, I tried both on and really felt like this one was the better fit. I’m wearing a girls Large 10-12. The material is lighter weight than the ladies version. Both are sold out online, but may be available in store.

IG Roundup

September 30, 2015

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
old navy shirt {available in 3 colors} + shop versona necklace {old | last seen here} + nike sneakers {on sale! + under $90} + michael kors jacket {similar linked, exact color sold out | last seen here}

So many goodies in this outfit! This shirt is a new purchase for fall and comes in three different colors as well as a shirt-dress version. My affinity for Old Navy is nothing new here, but I love that things are always marked down and there’s always a coupon out. My Nikes are also on sale; these are my favorite sneakers that I own. The shoe is really designed around keeping the foot comfortable. While I use these now predominantly at the gym, they also served as my walking shoes when I vacationed in Europe earlier this year, and are the largest reason I was able to walk around for miles and miles. They’re available in a large variety of colors of neon orange isn’t really your thing.

My Michael Kors anorak jacket was a Nordstrom Rack find while I was visiting Chicago; this version has lots of fun details including a detachable hood (#yasssss), black zippers, and an adjustable waist. If you’re like me, you hate coats/jackets because you turn into a marshmallow. My waist is what makes my pear shaped figure a little balanced, so if I can’t show off that there’s an area on my body that isn’t round — I’m not into the clothing option. Having a waist that cinches is key for me. I’d been wanting a coat this color for awhile so I’m excited to get to wear it more this fall, although the olive, navy and burnt orange options are beautiful too.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
hm houndstooth dress {old, sale find | last seen here} + forever 21 quilted faux leather jacket {similar linked} + druzy tassel necklace c/o modern and chic boutique

Looking forward to wearing this outfit at a cooler date! I love the hot pink houndstooth because it puts a fun spin on a classic print and the leather jacket gives an edgy vibe to the look.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
new york and company cardigan {old, similar | last seen here} + old navy purse {similar in red | last seen here} + kendra scott necklace + collar necklace via groopdealz {old} + target loafers {old} + shop local kentucky ‘donutucky’ tee + roz and ALI black jeans {similar here, sold out}
What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
old navy shirt + new york and company pants {old} + old navy purse {similar} + triangle pendant necklace + francesca’s watch {sold out}

I mentioned this in the blog post this outfit appeared in, but I’m super impressed with the material of this top. It’s a little more than I’d usually spend on an Old Navy button down, but the thicker fabric is worth it to me — It’s going to be a great piece for layering under sweaters once it gets cooler.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
old navy cardigan {available in more colors in store| last seen here} + old navy plaid shirt {old, similar | also seen here} + clarks flats {sold out, similar} + michael kors watch + francesca’s ring {available in boutiques, similar} + nail polish

This red plaid is one of my favorites that keeps getting worn all fall and winter long. I love how versatile it is because it seems like I keep finding items it complements in my closet. This sweater cardigan is a longer length, which was why I bought it. Most of my cardigans are “shirt length” and hit below the waist but above my hip bones. I like that this one goes down to upper mid thigh making it the perfect length to wear with leggings. The tan color pairs perfectly with this tartan plaid. It’s TTS, although the sleeves seem a bit longer than normal.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
vera bradley scarf in clementine ikat {exact color sold out, similar ikat scarf here | last seen here} + tassel necklace c/o purple peridot + hm cardigan + katie bowhead bracelet {similar linked} + shop versona druzy bracelet + clarks ankle boots + charlotte russe dress

Okay, let me start by saying: these HM cardigans are my favorite and are available in new fall colors. Go, go, go! I’ve been trying to be good lately, so I’ve held out but the dark green, burgundy, black and dark blue are all pieces that I could manage to justify adding to my closet. I’m a HUGE cardigan fan, because layering is really how I manage to get through winter and I love these cardigans as well as the price point ($14.99). For reference, I’ve found that they run small and always size up to a small (versus my usual XS at retailers like Target and Old Navy.)

This bow bracelet is my first Katie Bowhead piece, I’ve followed Kaitlin’s personal account on Instagram for forever and love that she loves all things colorful and sparkly. I’ve linked one of her upcoming pieces above — seriously how gorgeous is that glitter bow — and I love these coozies she has in her shop as well, perfect for gameday!

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
old navy quilted top + j crew inspired necklace {old} + kate spade new york purse {consignment find, similar | also seen here} + michael kors watch + nail polish

This quilted sweatshirt top is a little oversized, perfectly comfy and also comes in black. The material is nice and thick, but still breathable. I wasn’t sure how much I’d like this when I ordered it online, but I certainly see it being a piece I’m able to remix several ways. I like the fall update on the classic white tee.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
j crew inspired statement necklace + cardigan via costco {old, similar} + paisley dress via dressbarn {old}

This dress was a little too big in the chest to start with begin with and as I’v started working on building upper arm strength over the past couple months has gotten even bigger. But, this seemed like the perfect way to wear purple for World Alzheimer’s Day and after I belted the dress and added a big statement necklace.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
lunch @ chop shop salads

This Classic Cobb with the homemade blue cheese dressing was so yummy. The coolest thing about Chop Shop is the huge knives they bring out to chop your choices up before they mix in the dressing. This was my first time I’d visited one of their locations and I’d recommend it if you’re looking for a lunch spot in Louisville.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
old navy cardigan {old | also seen here} + gap polka dot shirt {thrift find, similar | also seen here} + statement necklace

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
kendra scott necklace + francesca’s plaid shirt {sold out, similar | also seen here}

I couldn’t resist throwing on this classic fall look the other morning when I was running errands and it was still cool out. No apologies for the fact that this black druzy Kendra Scott necklace is going to be on repeat for the next year. I didn’t think I could possibly like it better than my silver one and here we are and I’m wearing it every single day.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
old navy heart print blouse {thrifted, similar | also seen here} + kendra scott necklace + express skirt {thrift find, similar | also seen here} + rebecca minkoff clutch {similar | also seen here} + nail polish

I try to stay away from all black because I view it as an emergency look. Stuck on what to wear? All black. Not sure how dressed up your friends will be when you go out? All black. Being sick technically counts as an emergency so when I had to run into work and was running a fever, I grabbed a handful of black pieces and then threw my keys and some cough drops into my marble print clutch. Easy peasy & it looks like more effort went into the look.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
francesca’s charleston plaid dress {similar | also seen here} + kendra scott necklace + target style denim vest {similar | also seen here} + clarks ankle boots

Did you catch this classic look last week? Check it out here (:

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
lace shoulder top {also seen here} + blanket scarf {similar | also seen here} + francesca’s laser-cut skirt {similar | also seen here} + charming charlie turquoise cuff {similar}

The detailing on this skirt immediately caught my eye when I first saw it at Francesca’s and I’ve gotten a lot of wear out of it this summer and early fall. I do wish the quality were a little better; I hate pieces that don’t wash + dry well or easily. This one can make it through the washer when I put it in a delicates bag, but has to be line dried.

This turquoise cuff didn’t match the color scheme of this outfit, but I love the way the turquoise really popped against this blanket scarf. I’ve linked a similar style above.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
target tank {also seen here} + devon maryn active leggings + nike women lifting gloves + longchamp tote

I’ve been loving all of my Devon Maryn gear and finally got a chance to wear these navy striped pants. If you’re thinking about buying a pair, the sizing guide is really helpful. I’ve sized down from the medium I usually take in Old Navy and Forever21 activewear and am wearing the small.

If you lift and don’t have lifting gloves — get some! When I first started regularly going to the gym, I figured out that I like lifting better than cardio and was seeing quicker results in terms of building muscle, but hated that my hands were getting rough. I got these fingerless gloves at Dick’s and they protect my palms from getting calloused.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
old navy red plaid shirt {similar} + ralph lauren cable knit sweater + new york and company black ankle pants {similar} + clarks shoes flats {available in select colors and sizes, similar version with quilted leather body}

This is one of the outfits I posted on Instagram when I still hadn’t figured out how to use the platform in the most effective way. It’s definitely a look I’m excited to recreate once sweater weather gets here.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
vera bradley scarf {also seen here} + target utility vest {also seen here} + stella dot ring {also seen here} + opi nail polish + striped shirt via sam’s club {similar | also seen here} + roz & ALI blue jeans {similar}

It seems like the only days I can quickly throw together an outfit are the days when I don’t have to be somewhere by a certain time.  I went with one of my favorite fall outfit algebra equations: stripes + layers + jeans, but altered it a little since I know it’d heat up in the afternoon. This outfit will be on the blog sometime next week.

This nail polish is the only new fall shade I’ve bought so far and I’m absolutely obsessed! I swear by OPI polishes because I love the brushes and formula, but this one has been on frequent repeat since I bought it.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
cobalt blanket scarf {similar | also seen here} + trapeze sweater {also seen here} + nail polish + hunter boots {similar on sale in select colors here and here} + roz & ALI black jeans {similar | also seen here}

So…this blanket scarf was an awesome eBay find last fall, but sadly isn’t available anymore. I have linked a cobalt plaid option that I’ve been eyeing from Adorabelles that would is my favorite shade of blue. This sweater is so comfy and light and currently on major sale.

shop this post: old navy cardigan {old | also seen here} + gap embroidered polka dot shirt {thrift find | also seen here} + statement necklace {similar} + tarte blush + roz & ALI black jeans {similar}

While I love getting new clothes, my wallet loves when I try a new combination of pieces I already own. Last week, I decided to pull out this embroidered polka dot shirt from Gap and pair it with my white leopard print. I like that the pattern mixing is a little more subtle.
What Nicole Wore: Dots & Spots

This weekend was a semi-productive one for me: I finally caught up on emails for the blog and the volunteer work I do with my sorority. Honestly, I’ve been pretty bad lately about letting these pile up so it was such a relief and anxiety reducer to get through it yesterday.  While giving back is 100% worth it and I really enjoy being involved in my sorority on the other side of things, sometimes it stresses me out.

I also watched the premiere of Quantico last night and I’m still not sure if I’m into it or not.

My statement necklaces have been taking a backseat to a lot of my daintier, shorter pieces and my long pendant necklaces, but I thought this black and white stunner really completed this outfit — especially with my sandals. See you back here on Wednesday for the end of month Instagram round up!
