March Madness

March 2, 2016

If you’ve followed me for any amount of time, you know that I live and die for basketball season; so it’s both incredibly exciting and sad that March Madness is {almost} here. It’s exciting because it’s the first month that I’m co-hosting the How I Style It monthly link up and this month’s theme is team colors! And of course, it’s sad because I’m going to miss Kentucky basketball when it’s all said and done…just not as much as I did last year.

I hope you’ll join us and share a blog post with your team colors and school spirit; check out the instructions at the end of this post 🙂

What Nicole Wore: March Madness
shop the post: proper manners, raising banners tee + blue geometric blazer c/o {also seen here} + dark blue skinny jeans + cobalt flats with tortoise cap toe {on sale for $80 | also seen here} + black druzy necklace {also seen here} + ring c/o {sold out, similar on sale} + blue bracelet via charming charlie {old} + fieldcrest watch c/o {use code whatnicoleworeFS for free sizing of your JORD wood watch!} + leopard leather purse {exact print sold out, linked in solid, on sale! | also seen here} + nail polish + matte foundation c/o influenster {provided for reviewing and testing purposes} + eyebrows + eyeshadow {favorite palette} + liquid eyeliner + turquoise eyeliner {on waterline} + blush + mascara + matte lipstick
As soon as I heard that the theme for this month’s link up, I ordered this tee. To be honest, I was already looking for a reason to justify the purchase so this really just made the choice easier.  Not long after I ordered this one, it also came out in blue with a white banner — obsessed! {But I don’t need both….or do I?}
What Nicole Wore: March Madness

I love this blue patterned open blazer, especially the fun fringe tassel detail at the hem. I immediately thought it would look super cute over this sassy Kentucky tee while still staying in the school spirited state of mind. And obviously when rooting on the Cats, I always bring some leopard print. This bag is the perfect size for going to games because it holds all the essentials: tickets, keys, money, cards and of course my lucky sloth socks. {Don’t call me superstitious, UK went undefeated all of last season and then the one time I don’t wear the socks!}   What Nicole Wore: March Madness

I opted for simple accessories and a bright spring nail. I’ve been loving the OPI New Orleans collection lately and this shade, Got Myself Into a Jam-balaya, is my current favorite. Rings are a newer obsession of mine and this open pearl ring caught my eye pretty quickly; I grabbed a blue stretch bracelet and my wood watch to finish off my accessories.What Nicole Wore: March Madness

IG Roundup

February 29, 2016

It’s the last day of February so it’s only right that we recap the second half of the month as seen on Instagram. {Also, I was a horrible blogger and did nothing blog related this weekend which pretty much never happens. It was nice to take a break and be busy with life but I think if anything it showed me how “into” blogging I am.}

What I Learned in Year One of Blogging

February 26, 2016

The fact that What Nicole Wore is {almost} a year old seriously blows my mind. Most days I still feel like I’m stumbling around blindly trying to figure out if I’m going in the right direction, but when I step back and think about the last year, I get SO excited to see what the next year holds for me and What Nicole Wore.

Another strange thing to me, is the number of emails I get from people interested in starting a blog but not knowing where to start {I’m hardly what I’d call an expert}, but I wanted to share some background on what spiked my interest in blogging, how the beginning went and some of the best things I’ve learned over the last twelve months. Warning you in advanced, this is going to be a longggggg {but hopefully helpful and informational} read.

my very first #ootd post back when What Nicole Wore was Sequined Patterns
I started a style Instagram back in October 2012; I had just moved back to Louisville from Northern Virginia and had posted a few outfits on my personal Instagram and enjoyed interacting with other style lovers and seeing what other people were wearing. My best friend at the time would always put me down and make fun of my constant ‘Gramming {#sorrynotsorry} which spurred me to launch a separate account and not tell any of my friends about it.

I named the account @sequinedpatterns {I have no idea why other than it sounded ~trendy} and went with things. I’d post sporadically, I’d not be in the mood and not post for months. This went on for about two years. At one point, I even started a blog before it fizzled out after a couple months. I had a lot going on in my personal life and my close girlfriends at the time constantly made fun of me for my love of clothes which eventually drove me back to my style Instagram.

Stripe Out

February 24, 2016

It’s really been feeling like one of those weeks over in Nicole-land. I’m not sure what day it is, I constantly think I’m forgetting something, I can’t stay on top of my email inbox…. A hot mess basically.

What Nicole Wore: Stripe Out
shop the post: striped and layered sweater {on sale for $17! | also seen here} + white skinny jeans {also seen here} + leopard print loafers {old, similar | also seen here} + marble print leather clutch {linked in solid | also seen here} + statement necklace {also seen here} + nail polish + eye shadow + foundation c/o influenster {blended with this} + bronzer + blush + mascara + lips + eyebrows + eyeliner {on top lid} + eyeliner {turquoise along waterline}
I was all ready to start this post by sharing that this top is sold out, but then found that it’s been restocked in a few sizes and colors and it’s still on sale for $16.90 – Hooray! As you’ll see, this sweater features faux layers with the sweater part being cropped and then a fun chiffon layer underneath. The sweater portion has a super cute button detailing down the back. It is true to size {I’m wearing my normal XS}, super comfy and warmer than I thought it would be; this is going to be an awesome piece to wear during the transition to spring and I love this fun shade of purple.

{PS. Here’s the fun lace layered blouse I was going to link before I realized this top is back in stock! Super cute, tunic length and under $25!}
What Nicole Wore: Stripe Out

Pairing bold color with white jeans has been a major go to for me lately. I’m so tired of muted colors and just want to wear all the brights I can get my hands on.

What Nicole Wore: Stripe Out

My leopard loafers add just the right pop of pattern to the bottom half of this look; I love how fun they are and the pattern mixing isn’t too busy either.  Fun, patterned shoes are a great way to contribute to a print mix if you’re nervous about doing too much.

Olive You Always

February 22, 2016

Cheers to a new week! I enjoyed one too many Pina Coladas while out at dinner this weekend {oops}, but luckily was able to pull myself together Sunday morning. I also slammed my hand in the door Saturday morning, which led to me indulging in said Pina Coladas.

What Nicole Wore: Olive You Always
shop the post: olive tunic c/o shein {under $15} + white cami {similar} + ny and company black cropped pants {similar} + black scalloped flats {similar here also} + black druzy necklace + fieldcrest wood watch c/o jord wood watches + nail polish + maybelline fit me foundation {in coconut} c/o influenster {I blended it with this foundation to get a closer match to my skin tone} + bronzer {to contour} + blush + eye shadow + eyebrow filler + mascara + liquid eyeliner + blue eyeliner {on waterline only}
Influenster sent me one of the new shades of Maybelline’s Fit Me Foundation in matte; I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to face makeup due to the fact that it’s always super hard for me to find a match. This one is too dark and a little more orange than I liked, but I was able to blend it with the liquid foundation I’ve been using and have it look a bit more natural. The formula was very runny which I’m not a fan of, but I think if I were to continue experimenting with the new shades, I could probably find a closer match. This foundation did last me over twelve hours and stayed matte.

What Nicole Wore: Olive You Always

Okay, let’s talk about this tunic; it’s $14, the perfect shade of olive green, lightweight and slightly longer in the back. The neckline is flattering and has a little dip without going too low. I like the look {and calmed nerves} of having a cami underneath, but you could go without too. I paired my tunic with my black work pants {I swear by the NY & Co clearance racks}, but I can’t wait to wear it with my white jeans or some distressed blue jeans for a more casual look.  What Nicole Wore: Olive You Always

I also wore my Fieldcrest watch to add onto the classic color vibes. I love the light wood and how feminine it looks while also maintaining the ability to go with just about anything in my closet.  My watch came already sized which is a major plus in my book since I have baby wrists that tend to be way too small for lots of watches.
What Nicole Wore: Olive You Always

Disclaimer: Influenster sent me the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation for free for testing a reviewing purposes. SheIn sponsored this post; I love working with companies to bring new content to What Nicole Wore. All opinions are my own.
