The Oversized Cardigan is Your New Travel BFF

October 31, 2017

Happy Halloween! With November starting tomorrow — where did October go y’all? — I wanted to share one of my go to outfits for traveling.  I always try to layer up since I get cold easily and to choose something super comfortable too.  Enter, the oversized cardigan.

Travel season is here and you're going to need this travel outfit. Click To Tweet

The Oversized Cardigan is Your New Travel BFF | 2017’s Best Travel Tote

Let’s be real; one thing you HAVE to have when you travel is a good tote that can carry everything you need. I’ve been loving this black Vera Bradley leather bag; I can fit my MacBook inside with a notebook, my camera {this is the one I ended up purchasing if you’re reading from Friday’s post!}, a S’well bottle, snacks, etc.

Raving all about the new @verabradley tote I'll be taking on all my holiday travels! Click To Tweet

If you’ve been around this corner of the internet for awhile you know that I love Vera Bradley’s products, but what’s really awesome is that the product line has really grown with me. The leather handbags that they’ve come out with are so well made and really are some of my favorite purses.

The Oversized Cardigan is Your New Travel BFF | My Go To Travel Tote

Last year, I carried a different leather tote style so I was really curious how this one would compare and whether or not I’d like it as much. I’ve been carrying this carryall bag for a few months now and think it’s perfect for any and all travel you may have coming up for a few reasons:

Reversible leather handles, tons of pockets, & fits all the essentials. Chatting up my favorite tote: Click To Tweet

·      Reversible handles. While I don’t live and die by the “don’t mix black and brown” fashion rule, it’s nice that this bag has reversible straps making it easy to pair with either neutral. {Most of the Gallatin pieces have reversible straps like this which is awesome when you’re mixing and matching clothing on a trip!}

·      Size. As I mentioned above, this tote really does have a throw and go capability. I definitely questioned it when I was first ordering this bag because it does look a bit smaller than some of the work bags I use, but it’s the right size for carrying all of your essentials and then some.

·      Pockets! Vera Bradley tends to do a great job of making functional handbags for women and it shows with the pocket placement they work into their line. This one has two slip pockets inside – I use one for my phone and the other frequently is home for my debit card and/or ID when I get into that sticky situation of not being able to put them back in my wallet fast enough at the grocery store. The other pocket is a larger zip on the other side of the bag. What I love about this pocket is that it has a smaller pocket in it that holds a backup cell phone charger. Seeing as I probably should have a PhD in ‘Cell Phone Battery Drainage,’ this is a pocket that I’m constantly reaching for.

The Oversized Cardigan is Your New Travel BFF | Why I Love the Oversized Cardigan Trend

If I’m flying, I want something easy to take on and off for TSA lines, and if I’m driving I want something that I can wrap up under when it’s not my turn to drive. While blanket scarves are a great option while traveling {more on that tomorrow}, I love a good cardigan. Not only are they practical and cozy, they also are versatile and easy to restyle if you’re traveling with a limited wardrobe.

The Oversized Cardigan is Your New Travel BFF | Sizing of this Topshop Cardigan Dupe

This one is a dupe for a popular sweater from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale that sold out incredibly quick. Luckily, this take on the striped cardigan is a fraction of the sale price at just $24. It’s a one size fits all; I’m an XS and this bad boy swallows me. Since the oversized style is so in, that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but keep in mind that the sleeves are larger and the shoulders are dropped if you’re in the small or under size range.

A super cute cardigan for fall that doesn't break the bank! Click To Tweet

The Oversized Cardigan is Your New Travel BFF | Flat Over the Knee Boots

And let’s talk shoes! I got these flat over the knee boots last year; I really love the flat OTK boots for when you want your boots to look more casual and these are super easy to slip in and out of making them great for airport security too. {I’ll never forget flying out of Chicago and standing in the Midway security line forever just to realize that my Hunter boots did NOT want to come off easily. #Embarassing}

What is your go to travel outfit?
