Where to Celebrate National Donut Day in Louisville

May 25, 2018

One of my favorite national holidays really snuck up on me this year. So if you didn’t know, go ahead and mark your calenders because: National Donut Day is NEXT Friday! This seemed like the perfect opportunity to share my personal favorite donut shops in Louisville so that you can be ready to celebrate.

Where to Celebrate National Donut Day in Louisville | What I Look for In a Donut

LOL I giggled just writing that but, let’s be real there’s some things to take into consideration! My first factor is definitely taste but it’s also worth noting that I consider the atmosphere of the donut shop, the number of variations they offer, friendliness of staff, how they pack to go orders, and my big one – are they traditional or cake based donuts? Hands down, I prefer traditional donuts to cake so I like when shops offer both! {I also consider whether they spell it donuts or doughnuts but that’s a debate for another day.}  Now let’s get to the donuts; if you’re celebrating in Louisville and visit one of these, let me know!

Where to Celebrate National Donut Day in Louisville | My Neighborhood Donut Shop

State Donuts – 12907 Factory Lane, Louisville, Kentucky 40245 // This donut shop is a five minute drive from my house and a frequent stop for me. It has the smaller, family owned feel to it which I appreciate. It’s definitely popular for those living in the East End of Louisville and so selection can get narrowed down in a hurry. Sometimes they even sell out of donuts and close early. But if you’re looking for an old school donut shop without all the frills – this is the place for you. You won’t find the overly fancy donuts of your Instagram dreams, but you will find the classic sugar donut that’s fried to perfection, jelly or crème filled and classic donut holes.

Where to Celebrate National Donut Day in Louisville | The Donut Murals are Calling

Nords Bakery – 2118 S. Preston Street, Louisville, Kentucky 40217 // Not far from the University of Louisville’s main campus lies a real donut treasure: Nords Bakery. The shop has the darling donut themed murals along the side and inside you’ll find donut décor as well as options that extemd beyond donuts! Nords serves traditional donuts that are delicious! This is another donut shop that will offer you your classic options with a couple twists: glazed, chocolate, and a maple topped with bacon that’s raved about in Louisville. They also now offer mini doggy donuts so your best friend doesn’t have to be left out of the National Donut Day fun!

Where to Celebrate National Donut Day in Louisville | The Travel Channel Loves This One

Hi-Five Doughnuts – 1011 East Main Street, Louisville, Kentucky 40206 // If you read most recent guides for visiting Louisville, you’ll find this female-owned donut shop listed. They’ve been featured on the Travel Channel multiple times and the colorful shop is definitely Instagram-worthy. Inside you’ll find a menu that allows you to customize your own donut as well as rotating daily specials that have included a Prince-themed collection, s’mores, blueberry-lemon glaze, and more. The proximity of this donut shop to downtown is a plus so if you’re heading into your downtown office, this is where to go to pick up a baker’s dozen for everyone. These donuts are super dense so if you’re thinking you’ll be able to eat four donuts, be sure to half that and order a sprankle milk!

Where to Celebrate National Donut Day in Louisville | The New Kid on the Block

North Lime Old Louisville – 1228 South 7th Street, Louisville, Kentucky 40203 // This is another option for those closer to downtown. North Lime started in Lexington and expanded to Louisville earlier this year. Here you’ll find a two level donut and coffee shop that’s perfect to bring your laptop to and enjoy. This bakery features a regular menu as well as daily specials like red velvet, French toast, oreo dirt cheesecake and more! These are cake based donuts, so if you’re more into traditional ones go in with an open mind and be sure to order one that’s covered in icing and sweets.

They may be the new kid on the block but @NorthLimeOldLou has donut options for days! Click To Tweet

Where to Celebrate National Donut Day in Louisville | Just Across the River

Adrienne and Company – 129 West Court Avenue, Jeffersonville, Indiana 47130 // I first tried these after running the donut 5k; This full scale bakery offers donuts at the Jeffersonville location every morning. This Southern Indiana option offers mostly traditional donuts but do have some cake based donuts as well. Check them out for a large range of options like cookies and cream long johns, apple fritters, maple pecan, and double dip rings. The store has a huge dining area where you can sit down with friends or solo and also offers lots of breakfast options if you happen to have a non-donut lover accompanying you.
