Girl Bye! 2020 in Review

December 30, 2020

We are quickly approaching the end of the tumultuous year known as 2020 and I am ready to say, ‘Girl bye!’ to it. But before we do say goodbye, it’s time for the annual year in review post.

Girl Bye! 2020 in Review | Virginia Blogger

This was a strange year in many ways but for me personally, I dealt with some anxiety over when I’d be moving and starting a new full time job on top of the other chaos. Blogging was for sure something that I put in the backseat and I honestly think this is the least I posted both to my blog and Instagram since I launched almost six years ago.

Writing this end of year blog post feels a bit weird because in some ways this year doesn’t feel ‘complete’ and yet I feel very checked out of 2020 at the same time. Anyways, all that to say: if you feel like the ending of this year is somewhat anticlimactic — me too.

Girl Bye! 2020 in Review | My Most Viewed Blog Posts of 2020

Somewhat surprising to me…some of the most popular posts this year were from years past. Definitely something I’m taking into account as I plan content going forward.

The most viewed blog post this year was my skincare post from 2019. Last year, I got rid of my facial cleansing brush and switched to washing my face for 60 seconds with my hands; over the course of a month I noticed a difference! I also stopped using exfoliating masks; I’d used these for YEARS because I thought they would help with my acne scars and other hyperpigmentation. Exfoliating facial scrubs actually damage underlying layers of skin and can make hyperpigmentation worse. Skincare can be a bit intimidating because there’s SO much knowledge out there but this routine and using a chemical exfoliant have helped a lot. I’ve also majorly cut back on makeup wipes this year; I pretty much only use them if I’m dead tired otherwise I use the Farmacy Green Clean to remove my makeup.

Girl Bye! 2020 in Review | A Weekend Getaway to St. Louis

The second most viewed post this year was my very first 24 hour challenge post! Two years ago, I went on a girls’ weekend to St. Louis and blogged about what to do on a weekend trip to Saint Louis. While St. Louis isn’t a quick drive for me anymore, I am hopeful that I might have a weekend getaway or two next year!

Girl Bye! 2020 in Review | Comfortable Outfits and Derby Outfits

In a year where we’ve all learned to appreciate the small comforts of life it makes complete sense that a post about how to wear leggings was higher in the views.

On the complete OTHER side of the spectrum, I think we all missed getting dressed up. A few of my Kentucky Derby posts: this post with ideas of how to dress colorfully for the Kentucky Derby and this one which is still one of my very favorite Derby outfits!

Girl Bye! 2020 in Review | All About Dip Nails & a Weekend Getaway Packing List

Another post that got a ton of traffic this year was my in depth review of dip nails and Anthony Vince Spa. One of the small things I’m looking forward to in the new year is getting a pedicure!

With travel looking so different this year (drivable distances, staycations, and getaways seem to be the move) it was good to see my tips for packing for a quick trip and packing checklist also ranking high on audience favorites.

Girl Bye! 2020 in Review | The Personal News!

Rounding out the list was my moving announcement post; I mostly kept this quiet until I had for sure dates and then things were moving SUPER quickly. While I miss Louisville and am super excited to go back and visit when recreational travel is safe again, I’m also looking forward to finding my new normal here in Northern Virginia.

This past year has brought so much change and while there are some lessons I’ll carry into the future, I’m also excited for a metaphorical fresh start. Talk to you in the new year!
