Suede Skirt + Houndstooth

November 20, 2015

What Nicole Wore: Suede Skirt + HoundstoothCheers for Friday! This week has been absolutely crazy; I had a great time watching the Wildcats get a win over Duke on Tuesday only to get stranded in Chicago for all of Wednesday. Being home and sleeping in my own bed has been so, so good. -Insert praise hands emoji-

I’m looking forward to getting work out of the way today so I can celebrate my dad’s birthday tonight. Pretty sure I’ll never be able to top surprising him with Wegman’s pancake mix (thanks a million, Amazon), but hopefully he likes this year’s gift.

shop the post: white button down {also seen here} + houndstooth pullover sweater {similar | also seen here} + suede button front skirt {on sale for under $25! | also seen here} + marled tights {last seen here} + ankle boots {also seen here} + crystal bracelet c/o modern and chic boutique + silver druzy necklace {also seen here} + tortoise and crystal necklace {also seen here}

This white Oxford from Brooks Brothers is a classic closet staple because it can be office or weekend appropriate and is great for layering in the cooler months. I cuffed the sleeves over my gray and navy houndstooth sweater here.

What Nicole Wore: Suede Skirt + HoundstoothI talked about this skirt in my Instagram roundup at the beginning of this week and how I was struggling to style it because of the cut. I decided to fully embrace that it sits lower on my hips and somewhat masked the the low ride by not tucking my top into the skirt.
What Nicole Wore: Suede Skirt + Houndstooth  What Nicole Wore: Suede Skirt + HoundstoothThese accessories feel like they belong together to me. I bought my tortoise link necklace off a daily deal site after admiring the style when J.Crew had it at the retail store. I still can’t quite justify dropping $100+ on costume jewelry, but I always love the sparkle and colors in J. Crew’s pieces.  I love that this piece has neutral colors and also a good amount of sparkle without being too blingy.

My bracelet is this month’s freebie from Modern and Chic Boutique; if you follow me on Instagram, I’ve shared how you can get this bracelet at no cost (minus the flat rate shipping). It’s a great piece for you or you can grab it as a stocking stuffer or Secret Santa gift. Modern and Chic also released some new blanket scarf colors earlier this week and I’m head over heels in love!

Hope you enjoy this last weekend before the holiday madness starts up!

All Lined Up: 11.18.15

November 18, 2015

What Nicole Wore: All Lined Up

I was forced to cut back on Starbucks following the Lost Gold Card Saga of 2015, but my replacement gold card finally arrived and I celebrated the occasion by picking up my first red cup. I’m not a coffee person at all and caffeine always makes my anxiety kind of out of control {read: physically jittery and mentally jittery #yikes} so I opted for a Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate, my favorite holiday drink.

What Nicole Wore: All Lined Up
shop the post: black piped button down + burgundy skinny jeans + tall boots {also seen here} + black wool hat with laser cut detail {also seen here} + gold glitter skinny belt + black druzy necklace {also seen here} + nail polish + eye shadow + eye primer + blush + foundation + highlighter + setting spray + eyebrow filler + mascara

A new H&M store opened at the outlets outside of Louisville and while I snagged a couple store opening deals, I also grabbed this white button down. The v neckline and black piping were such unique details that I had to have it. The shirt is a a bit sheer so I pulled on a camisole underneath.

What Nicole Wore: All Lined Up

This button down fits well through the chest, but strains a bit around the hips so I tucked it into my new burgundy skinny jeans and belted it to give a more finished look. I’ve been majorly loving on my olive skinny jeans so I decided to give a burgundy pair a try when they went on sale.

I wanted to let the blouse speak for itself so I pulled out my black and gunmetal druzy necklace; I wear these necklaces all the time.

IG Roundup

November 16, 2015

Can’t believe we’re already over halfway through November! Let’s recap the first half of the month as seen on Instagram. And if you’re not already following me….get to it. I spent this past weekend working, but it was completely worth it as I’m headed to Chicago for the next day and a half (ish) for the Kentucky-Duke basketball game. #GoCats

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
dark wash skinny jeans {also seen here} + wool hat with laser cut detail {similar here} + clarks shoes ankle boots {also seen here} + nail polish
How amazing is the detail on this hat?! I was convinced that the large wool hat trend was one I would skip out on for many reasons: you can normally find me wearing my hair up, I have a kind of odd shaped head, my forehead is kind of large so how am I supposed to position this hat? I finally tried this one on a couple weeks ago and fell in love! The longer brim is very flattering, it fits on my head and I immediately was drawn to the laser cut detail.  This exact one is linked above and runs at $34, but I’ve linked a similar black wool hat (sans laser cut detail) as well that’s under $25.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
white button down with black piping + crystal statement necklace {similar | also seen here} + black body con skirt {similar | also seen here} + scallop flats {similar | also seen here}
I’d been eyeing a contrast trimmed button down for awhile now and hadn’t found one that I liked the fit of in the price range I was looking for. While I probably (read totally) didn’t need another black and white blouse, the fit on this one worked on my body and I like the v-neckline. It is a bit sheer, but nothing that a nude or white cami can’t take care of. The fit is true to size; I tried on the 2 and the 4 just because sometimes the sizing can be off, and ended up with the 2.  I love the clean and classic look of this top paired with a black mini skirt, but the longer length means I can pair it with leggings or coated black skinny jeans and I love the idea of this tucked into an a-line skirt as well. With the neutral colors, I see it being an item I get a lot of wear out of.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
varisty striped cardigan {similar here | also seen here} + red plaid flannel {similar | also seen here} + short marble necklace {similar | also seen here} + olive skinny jeans {also seen here} + kate spade new york purse {similar | also seen here} + michael kors watch + clarks flats {also seen here} + nail polish
I hadn’t gotten a chance to wear this plaid yet so I paired it with this bold cardigan so that I could be super bright and have a little pattern mix at the same time.  I don’t think I’ll ever grow out of my stripe loving ways.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
herringbone vest {similar, budget friendly option | also seen here} + olive twill shirt {also seen here} + burgundy skinny jeans + leopard print boat shoes {similar | also seen here}
Burgundy and olive aren’t colors I’d normally think to pair together, but as their both “it” colors this fall, I gave it a try and really liked the outcome. Flatlays have become my new way to outfit plan and I can’t wait to wear this combination.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
ivory blouse + houndstooth skirt c/o eshakti + marled tights + pave link bracelet {also seen here} + spiked bracelet {also seen here} + watch + nail polish
Did you catch this look featuring my skirt from eShakti last week? #OBSESSED

The skirt seemed so me and I have a major crush on the ivory, embellished top I paired with it; can’t wait to wear it all holiday season because it’s sparkle season, people. Don’t forget to use promo code “whatnicolewore” to receive 10% off your eShakti purchase through December 11th.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
blanket scarf {also seen here} + marled sweater {similar | also seen here} + olive quilted vest {similar | also seen here} + black skinny jeans {also seen here} + hunter boots {also seen here} + nail polish
I debated so hard on buying these Hunter boots y’all and I’m so glad I decided to go for it and sell my other (too big) pair. We’ve been having serious fall weather the past couple weeks with lots of rain and cold temps. These wellies have been so necessary for avoiding wet jean ankle syndrome (literally the worst).

I bought this olive vest not entirely sure if it would get the closet love it deserves since I already own a forest green colored vest, but I’m happy to report it’s been on major repeat lately.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
navy polka dot shirt {similar | also seen here} + cable knit sweater {also seen here} + dark wash blue skinny jeans {also seen here} + pave link bracelet + nail polish + eyebrow filler + foundation + eye shadow + blush + setting spray + lip color
This sweater is one of my very favorites; it’s high quality so it’s held up very well and it’s thick and warm. What’s not to like? This classic piece is on heavy rotation each fall + winter and is even making the trip to Chicago with me.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
black skinny jeans + striped long sleeve shirt + buffalo plaid vest {similar | also seen here} + leopard print shoes + spiked bracelet + pave link bracelet
Buffalo plaid + black and white stripes is such a classic print mix to me; the black makes it very complementary and this combo is one I’d recommend to those a little more wary about pattern mixing.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
red plaid shirt {old, similar | also seen here} + suede skirt + statement necklace {similar} + black druzy necklace + spiked bracelet + watch + ankle boots + gold glitter clutch
I’m still feeling a little meh about this skirt; the price was good, but the waist is huge and the length is a bit short without tights underneath. The waist issue can be fixed by a tailor so I’m tentatively giving it another chance. I did end up wearing this plaid out for a friend’s birthday and was so upset when I found a little wear and tear on the sleeve, but four years into this relationship….I guess it’s probably time to start the search for a new red tartan plaid.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
blanket scarf {also seen here} + red pullover sweater {similar | also seen here} + dark wash blue jeans
The blue in this blanket scarf is just AMAZING. I want to wrap myself up in it every single day. I’ve been trying to decide on what blanket scarf I want to add to my collection next and can’t decide between this one, this one or this one….what do you think?

I hadn’t worn this sweater since I was in London (…in May) and love how warm it is – definitely want to pick a new one up this year.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
instax mini 8 c/o dressbarn + kate spade backup battery + kate spade cha cha mug
Gifting season’s officially in full swing, but last week was crazy! My boss left for a new job, friend’s birthday, Dad’s birthday this week, thanksgiving gift exchange. Naturally, I headed to my favorite place, Paper Source, to pick up some cards during Friends and Family and was even more surprised because they were having a sale too! I have an obsession with paper goods that’s well known among friends and family members; last year I made my mom go to a stationery crafting class with me. (This year she told me it was too expensive even if I was going to pay for both of us…. #rude) I made myself stay away from the Christmas cards since I still have tons left over (and bought some on clearance back in January…it’s fine), but I’m majorly crushing on this set, this set and this set!

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
red tartan plaid + blanket scarf + sequin blouse + black skinny jeans + cap toe flats
I debated on what color scarf to get when I purchased this through a Living Social deal and am so glad I got the black and white one. It goes with everything (obviously) and I find myself reaching for it all the time. This is one I’ve cut in half to get rid of bulkiness. Also, halving your blanket scarf means you have another half to gift to a friend.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
navy blazer {thrift find, similar} + embellished top {similar} + watch + spiked bracelet + pave link bracelet + ring + houndstooth skirt c/o eshakti + marled tights
Already talked about my love for this skirt, so let’s talk about my current eShakti faves: eyeing this, this, this, this and this. Okay, but how perfect is the fit of this skirt? Casually want to get all clothing custom made now.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
striped basic top + faux leather jacket {similar} + blue jeans + gold glitter clutch {similar} + spiked necklace c/o siramara
I can’t help but think about Grease every time I pull out this quilted jacket and I don’t hate it. To continue my edgy vibe, I went with a studded clutch (that’s also glittery #touché) and a spiked necklace.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
francesca’s plaid flannel {sold out online} + j crew factory camel sweater {solid sweater linked} + watch + olive quilted vest {similar} + white skinny jeans {also seen here} + leopard print crossbody
This sweater is an oldie but goodie and obviously a blogger fave. It’s such a fun statement piece that always makes quickly throwing together an outfit super easy. I’m majorly crushing on this sweater from Tablots right now for the holiday season for this exact reason.

Wishing you the happiest week!

Hounding Around with eShakti: 11.13.15

November 13, 2015

Ever tried something on at a store and immediately grimaced before thinking to yourself, if it were just a little longer/bigger in the hips/the neckline weren’t so low, etc? Me too. Enter eShakti. eShakti is a women’s fashion clothing that offers clothing in sizes 0-36w, but what makes them unique is that every item they offer can be ordered in those standard sizes or custom made for you based on your measurements. On top of that you can change the design of pieces: love that mini skirt, but would feel comfortable with the hemline being at the knee? eShakti’s got you covered. Love that red dress but think it would be better with 3/4 length sleeves instead of a cap sleeve? Yep, they can take care of that too.

I’ve spoken before about the struggle I have with getting skirts and pants that fit me in the hips, thighs and waist so when eShakti reached out to me about making a piece tailored to me, I knew I was gonna go big: it was time to order a skirt. What Nicole Wore: Hounding Around with eShakti

eShakti’s current turnaround for custom tailored pieces is 12-18 days. I was very impressed with the speed; nine days after I’d submitted my measurements, I came home to this package on my front door. Also impressive? The variety in styles available at any given time. While trying to decide on what piece I wanted to style for this post, I realized that the site really does have something for everyone and more importantly: every body. I saw styles I could see my mother wearing, I saw pieces I loved, I saw pieces that my bustier friends would like and could customize the neckline on.  The customization fee is $7.50, which having had a handful of skirts tailored to fit my waist, hips and/or thighs, I can say is beyond reasonable! {The last time I had a skirt tailored for this reason, I paid close to $20 for the alterations.}

What Nicole Wore: Hounding Around with eShakti
shop the post: ivory sleeveless blouse {similar} + houndstooth skirt c/o eShakti + 3/4 sleeve navy blazer {similar} marled tights + rebecca minkoff clutch {exact print sold out, under $20 version | also seen here} + ring {also seen here} + pave link bracelet {also seen here} + spiked bracelet {also seen here} + michael kors watch + ankle boots {also seen here} + eye shadow + eye primer + blush + foundation + eyebrow filler + highlighter + mascara + setting spray

It didn’t take me long to find this skirt and keep coming back to it. I really felt like the textured houndstooth and funky colors encompassed my personal style. I then had someone else (thanks Mom!) take my measurements.  While I had this skirt made custom to my body, I liked the way this one looked; mini skirts are kind of my jam and these pockets aren’t the kind I worried would make me look wider in the hips. However, this skirt can be made four different lengths and you can opt to have the pockets removed.

While I waited for my skirt to arrive, I started dreaming up ways I wanted to style it. With the holidays coming up, I thought it would be fun to do a dressier look. The colors in this skirt are stunning, so I opted for a neutral off white top with an embellished collar to bring some sparkle.

What Nicole Wore: Hounding Around with eShakti

Total honesty: when I first pulled the skirt out of the box, I was convinced it was WAY too small and there was no way it would fit – despite the fact that I knew it’d been made based off my body’s measurements. I was so relieved when I pulled it on and found it was the perfect fit. I love that this style is the contour waist, that really highlights and emphasizes the (in my opinion) best part of my body.  What Nicole Wore: Hounding Around with eShaktiThe navy in the skirt made me think of my navy blazer and I love the classic and perfectly preppy look of the navy blazer over the ivory top. What Nicole Wore: Hounding Around with eShakti

Red, White and Striped All Over: 11.11.15

November 11, 2015

What Nicole Wore: Red, White and Striped All OverHi, you’ll be able to find me in this blanket scarf non-stop from here on out. The colors in this are SO stunning and I love the simplicity of the red, white, and blue.  The colors aren’t exactly winter #sopatriotic, but these are the colors I constantly wear and I immediately bought this scarf when I saw it online a couple weeks ago. I did end up halving this scarf so that I wouldn’t be as overwhelmed, as I mentioned in last week’s post.

What Nicole Wore: Red, White and Striped All Over
shop the post: red striped boatneck tee {old, similar linked} + tortoise sunglasses + utility vest {also seen here} + red white and blue blanket scarf + gold ring {also seen here} + black skinny jeans {also seen here} + clarks shoes flats + spiked bracelet + michael kors watch + nail polish + blush + foundation + setting spray + eyebrow filler + mascara

I tied in the primary colors by pairing this scarf with a red and white striped 3/4 sleeve boatneck top.  The weather in Louisville has been so touch and go lately; 70 degrees one day, 40 the next so wearing pieces that are easy to add and remove has been important. I pulled on my utility vest to add some texture and another layer.

What Nicole Wore: Red, White and Striped All Over  What Nicole Wore: Red, White and Striped All Over

My olive utility vest is a kids size, but here is a similar style in ladies sizes!  Olive is one of the it colors for fall and this military inspired vest can be styled so many different ways. I love that this ring looks like I’m wearing multiple rings and is adjustable.
