Lavender Hunter Boots for April Showers

April 6, 2016

I’ve been trying to step out of the box more with my makeup choices and this hot pink lipstick definitely does just that. It has a blue metallic undertone that made me a little intimidated to put it in my online cart, but the color is stunning in person and the formula is creamy and comfortable to wear.

I recently started using this waterproof brow pencil to outline my brows and it has been a game changer; I have a small part of my brow that refuses to grow back in after a plucking gone wrong incident {that let’s be real we’ve all suffered at some point} so outlining the bottom and top of my brows lets me cover it up and get my brows nice and even. I use the spooly brush on the end of my brow pencil to soften the lines before going over the body of my brow with this gel that holds my eyebrow in place and evens out the color.

If you’re a platinum member at Ulta now is a great time to purchase since they have one of the 20% off coupons out that doesn’t exclude the prestige brands; I’ve been loading up my cart all week with all my skincare and beauty favorites that rarely go on sale/are eligible for coupons.

This dress immediately jumped out at me because 1. it has stripes {my fave} 2. the t shirt material that makes it super easy to throw on and dress up or down and 3. the elbow patches. I’m wearing a small and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived that it is a little longer in the back; keeping my tail covered in shorter dresses can be tricky at times but this one was actually long enough for me to get away with belting it.

Let’s talk about the big elephant in the room — rain boots but no rain. I know, I know. The day I planned to shoot this outfit, it did rain but unfortunately started hailing and put us under a tornado watch so I went for the pretty pictures instead of the practical ones, so to speak.

These lilac Hunter boots jumped out at for me for a couple of reasons, but the first was for sure the price. I haven’t been able to check out my local Clothes Mentor as much as I’d like but after visiting with Tif a couple weekends ago and talking about some of her finds, I pulled up their Instagram and was lucky enough to see they’d just posted these boots and that they were in an 8.  I called them the next morning, had them hold the boots for me, drove over and picked them up for just $50 compared to the $150 they usually run.

This DIY clutch has been on my to do list ever since I saw Kayla’s post with hers; the project wasn’t as difficult as I expected and was a great way to work on my {very} fledgling sewing skills. Hoping to one day be able to make {small} alterations and maybe even be able to hem.

I ordered my ring while it was on flash sale a few weeks ago, my friend Heather is a Stella & Dot stylist and after I ordered this ring from her back in the fall I knew I wanted another one because of how well it fit and how frequently I wear it.

The DITTO experience

April 4, 2016

Happy Monday!  What did you get into this weekend? I worked Saturday {always an experience let me tell you}, took advantage of the insanely good weather {April in Kentucky can literally be anything} by shooting a few different upcoming posts, and ended the weekend with a volunteer meeting.  Luckily, I was off work on Friday so I managed to catch up on sleep and my email inbox that was quite honestly starting to get a little intimidating.

Today I wanted to talk about DITTO, a subscription service that allows users to rent endless designer eyewear. This is hardly the first time they’ve been on the blog, but after using the service for almost two months now, I figured it was a good time to share my experience with the service, answer any questions you may have {think of something I didn’t cover? leave a comment or shoot me an email!} and share a promo code so that you could try a month of the service for free!

The concept:

Think Netflix, but with trendy sunglasses and prescription glasses from your favorite designers like Ray Ban, Prada, Dolce and Gabbana, Elizabeth and James, Karen Walker, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Burberry and many more.  You can upload a photo of your face and then you’ll be able to virtually try on frames before requesting them; DITTO has you fill out a style survey and chooses which pair of glasses to send you based on the survey and your wish list.

You can choose between a sunglass, $24/mo, or optical subscription, $34/mo, and then you’re good to go — swap out frames as frequently {or infrequently} as you choose.  Shipping labels and return packaging are provided for you with each new package so you can return your old pair by simply attaching the prepaid return label to the mailing envelope and sticking it in your mailbox or dropping it in any USPS box. So convenient, right?

The looks:

My latest pair from DITTO is these tortoise frames with the blue mirrored lenses. This look is coming soon to the blog but I couldn’t resist sharing this photo!

Being able to constantly refresh your accessories keeps outfits fresh.  Check out some more of my looks with my DITTO eyewear below.

My sunglasses usually ship from Evansville and arrive a couple days after I request them; my latest shipment got held up but after I contacted DITTO, they rushed the new pair to me. Their customer service is super helpful and typically responds within a business day.

The $15 Tunic

April 1, 2016

I’ve been spring dreaming this week and haven’t been able to resist doing some online shopping for a few bright and colorful new spring items. While I’m ready to break out my brights, the weather is still a bit cooler so finding a good compromise has been a bit of a struggle. I did, however, take my white jeans out for a spin this week, they always make me feel a lot brighter.

What Nicole Wore: The $15 Tunic
shop the post: olive tunic c/o shein {last seen here} + white cami {similar} + white skinny jeans {last seen here} + cognac clog sandals {on sale, also available in black, if in between sizes – size down} + bar necklace {similar, on sale for under $30} + stella and dot ring + old navy mini saddle bag purse {old, similar} + OPI nail polish + NARS blush + colourpop lipstick + tarte foundation

 Currently Crushing On:

What Nicole Wore: The $15 Tunic

This tunic from SheIn is versatile and can easily be both a work and play staple; I love tucking it into a pencil skirt or wearing it with black dress pants just as much as I love it with my white skinny jeans or a pair of denim boyfriend shorts.

These cognac wedges were a must have for me and are surprisingly comfortable. I’m really glad that a thicker heel has come back into style versus a stiletto — my feet are pretty grateful too.

Gingham Dress

March 30, 2016

Happy Wednesday! I’m {already} running on fumes so I’m pretty excited for my next day off to get here.

What Nicole Wore: Gingham Dress
shop the post: black gingham plaid dress {old, similar linked other option here and here | also seen here} + jean vest {also seen here} + sunglasses c/o DITTO {$12 dupe | also seen here} + marble necklace {similar | also seen here} + mint multi-strand necklace {similar} + leather wrap bracelet {also seen here} + hot pink matte lipstick {limited edition} + blush + eyeliner
What Nicole Wore: Gingham Dress

I broke this dress out for Easter Sunday; as you can see it was a gorgeous cloudy day, so I pulled out this dress from last year and threw on some spring colored jewelry.  I love the crochet detail along the hem of this dress and it’s super comfortable to wear. What Nicole Wore: Gingham Dress

This ColourPop matte lipstick was a freebie they added to orders after they reached 2 million followers on Instagram; it’s much easier to apply than the ultra matte liquid lipsticks, the staying power was great {lasted through my deviled eggs and ham} and I’ve found that it’s not as drying as the liquid lipsticks. What Nicole Wore: Gingham Dress

I bought a bunch of these multi strand beaded necklaces in different colors because they’re easy to quickly throw on to finish an outfit + they’re great for layering with shorter necklaces! My Kendra Scott druzy necklaces come to mind. What Nicole Wore: Gingham Dress

Derby Days: I’ve Got the Blues

March 28, 2016

Hi! Welcome to my new series on the blog, Derby Days! The Kentucky Derby is held the first Saturday after the first Friday in May and is the event of the year in Louisville. For me, it represents the switch from spring to summer and each year is filled with beautiful outfits, hats, people and good times. I’m excited to share some outfits over the next month that I love for Derby and the Kentucky Oaks, the race held the day before Derby where the fillies run and attendees are asked to don pink to raise awareness for breast and ovarian cancer.  Churchill Downs donates money each year to Bright Pink and has stations throughout the track where attendees can make a check or cash donation on Oaks Day.

What Nicole Wore: Derby Days: I've Got the Blues
shop the post: royal blue cape dress + statement necklace c/o {similar | also seen here} + blue mirrored aviators {similar | also seen here} + fringe suede wedge sandal {also seen here} + black and blue fascinator {under $6!} + nail wrap ring c/o + ring + pink matte lipstick + eyeshadow + blush + highlighter
Cape dresses have been a big trend lately and this one really won me over with the open back. I love how the cape portion provides a little comfort and adds a layer on top of the body con base of the dress too.

What Nicole Wore: Derby Days: I've Got the Blues

I’ll admit Kentucky Derby is one of the few times a year that I find myself really willing to splurge, {I mean $100+ on a hat…? Not a normal occurrence for me} but I did want to show some look that were more budget friendly through this series.

And the biggest {and most necessary} accessory for Derby weekend? The hat or fascinator of course! The decision between hat and fascinator can be a tough one; at times a hat can seem like a big commitment – and a financial one too.

This one was only $6 — a complete steal.  This one matched perfectly with my dress, but it’s easy to add more patterned tulle {I love the polka dots!}, feathers or flowers.

What Nicole Wore: Derby Days: I've Got the Blues

Comfortable shoes are a must, I never want to be the girl walking around Churchill Downs barefoot {#yikes}, so these fringe low wedge sandals in brown suede are perfect to complete the look.  Also perfect? This hot pink matte lipstick, simple gold rings and a statement necklace full of spring colors.
