Burgundy Blazer

December 21, 2015

When I was little, my mom would buy me a Christmas dress every year. Once I became a teenager, this stopped and we became more of a “jeans on Christmas” kind of family. This week, I wanted to show a couple different casual outfits for spending time with family as well as my Christmas Eve outfit; my family started going out to dinner on Christmas Eve about five years ago and so this is usually when everyone gets a little more dressed up.

What Nicole Wore: Burgundy Blazer
shop the post: burgundy blazer {thrift find, similar | also seen here} + striped & sequined shirt {also seen here} + blue skinny jeans + cognac tall boots {similar} + toasted eye shadow from this palette + foundation + blush + highlighter in opal + eyebrow filler + setting powder + setting spray + lip color in shade snog {over this}

This shirt immediately jumped out at me; I love the combination of stripes and sequins. As I’ve mentioned before, I have found that the sequins on my inner arms and sides can catch on each other so wearing it with a blazer was an easy way to avoid this problem.

{How cute are these reindeer gift tags from Hobby Lobby?} I have a big love-hate relationship with blazers. I like them to be more fitted and less boxy; I’m pear shaped so looking like a long rectangle really does nothing for me. I thrifted this one earlier this year, thinking that for $5, it could be altered if I wanted. I never did get it tailored and have grown to love the boxy fit and that it’s machine washable, which is so rare with blazers. The burgundy color is different in that it’s not the navy or black I’d usually immediately go for, but it still matches well with most items. I chose this one for this outfit, because I like that the burgundy subtly adds some Christmas color without being over the top (which I do like at times, to be fair.)What Nicole Wore: Burgundy Blazer

This outfit is one I would actually wear to Christmas with my family because of the simplicity and fun touch with the sequins.  I opted for a red lip to bring in a some more subtle festive vibes and a pretty rose gold eye shadow from my very favorite eye shadow palette. I have a few now and can honestly say that the Naked palette is still the one I end up reaching for first. While it’s a bit pricy, it is included in Ulta‘s 20% off sale for rewards members right now making it $43. These palettes only get included in this sale ~twice a year so it’s a good time to purchase and think about other pricy makeup items you may be considering. I grabbed this highlighter while I was in line last week so that I could finally see what all the fuss was about and I love it.

IG Roundup

December 14, 2015

How was your weekend? I spent mine cooing over pictures of my cousin that was born Thursday night (seriously can’t wait to meet her!), working, wrapping a single gift and Pinning my life away.

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup
shop the photo: green peacoat {old, similar} + striped and sequined top {runs large, size down} + black skinny jeans + ankle boots

A festive colored coat is so fun this time of year; this one was an old clearance find that my mom bought for me, but I’ve linked one that comes in a similar, rich shade of green as well as a very pretty red.

Leopard Cardigan

November 25, 2015

If you’re traveling home today, safe travels! If you’re already with your family…hope you packed stretchy pants and your appetite. I always make 5 Cup Salad, but I’m really thinking I might try to make Paige’s 3 Cheese Mashed Potato Casserole…holy yum. Cheese + bacon? No one in my family will be able to resist! (Including me…)

What Nicole Wore: Leopard Cardigan
shop the post: leopard cardigan {on sale!} + black front button tank {similar} + black skinny jeans + watch {different color watch face} + black boots with gold zippers {under $50!} + black druzy necklace + foundation + eyebrows + blush + lip color + highlighter + mascara

I told you in Monday’s post about how I scooped up some incredible deals at Gap Factory last weekend and this leopard print cardigan was one of them + it was only $11!  I missed out on the super popular leopard cardi from Target last year and still didn’t own a leopard cardigan. I felt like I was missing out on major pattern mixing opportunities, but now I’ve made it! This one’s also available in a gray leopard so pretty much everyone’s covered here. The fit is true to size, I’m wearing an XS although if you layer your cardigans over thicker knits or sweaters, I’d size up.

Saying I had a favorite pattern would be completely blasphemous, but leopard would for sure make a top ten list for me. I’ve been all about “easy” outfits this week, Thanksgiving plus working Black Friday always drainssssss me so chances are if you see me in the flesh over the next five or so days, I’ll be rocking an easy to put together combo. Or using an old outfit as inspiration — anyone else do this? Totally guilty of stalking my own Instagram for outfit ideas.What Nicole Wore: Leopard Cardigan

I know this sweater will pair well with anything (seriously, I need a hot pink tank for summer to wear with this and white jeans). Stripes, a tartan plaid shirt, more stripes, blue jeans, pencil skirts. Endless possibilities. Kind of like the Golden State Warriors…. I. Can’t. Stop. Staying. Up. To. Watch! {Little known fact: I love basketball just as much as I love clothes. Tell me who your squads are in the comments and we can either be friends or fight. I kid. #CatsBy90}

In more post related news, I finally found a lip product that doesn’t completely dry out my lips or cause a reaction! -praise hands emoji- -celebration emoji- -heart eyes emoji- All the emojis, really. I feel like I’ve tried so many things over the past couple years as lip color has become the thing. Every time I’d try a new product my lips would crack and split and I’d end up sad and embarrassed.

Over the summer, I finally took a break from constantly trying new products and just stuck to basic moisturizing. But with all the fabulous holiday beauty gift sets coming out, I decided I wanted to give a few a try. I’ve had a pretty good experience with Benefit’s Lollitint and after doing some reading decided I wanted to give their tinted balms a try. I ended up buying this gift set at Ulta over the weekend and I’m so happy it worked out. The set is $26 and includes two full-sized tinted balms {normally $18 each} plus two mini lip and cheek stains {full size is normally $30 each}. Not only is the kit a total deal, it’s a great under $30 gift for the beauty lover in your life.

{can you see the pure joy in this unpublished snap? why is snapchat’s selfie camera so much better than my regular iPhone’s?}

I’ve been so excited that I haven’t given the other color a try yet, but I will definitely keep you all updated on my lip color trials and tribulations.

Friday’s post will be all about navigating my favorite places to shop and calling out some great gift ideas from all of them. Speaking of awesome gifts: how cute is this pouch? It would be so cute to tuck a set of mini nail polishes + a Starbucks gift card in plus it’s under $15 right now.

All Lined Up: 11.18.15

November 18, 2015

What Nicole Wore: All Lined Up

I was forced to cut back on Starbucks following the Lost Gold Card Saga of 2015, but my replacement gold card finally arrived and I celebrated the occasion by picking up my first red cup. I’m not a coffee person at all and caffeine always makes my anxiety kind of out of control {read: physically jittery and mentally jittery #yikes} so I opted for a Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate, my favorite holiday drink.

What Nicole Wore: All Lined Up
shop the post: black piped button down + burgundy skinny jeans + tall boots {also seen here} + black wool hat with laser cut detail {also seen here} + gold glitter skinny belt + black druzy necklace {also seen here} + nail polish + eye shadow + eye primer + blush + foundation + highlighter + setting spray + eyebrow filler + mascara

A new H&M store opened at the outlets outside of Louisville and while I snagged a couple store opening deals, I also grabbed this white button down. The v neckline and black piping were such unique details that I had to have it. The shirt is a a bit sheer so I pulled on a camisole underneath.

What Nicole Wore: All Lined Up

This button down fits well through the chest, but strains a bit around the hips so I tucked it into my new burgundy skinny jeans and belted it to give a more finished look. I’ve been majorly loving on my olive skinny jeans so I decided to give a burgundy pair a try when they went on sale.

I wanted to let the blouse speak for itself so I pulled out my black and gunmetal druzy necklace; I wear these necklaces all the time.
