Spot On, Nailed It

January 8, 2016

You know when you overdo it during leg day but you don’t know until later? My current situation. Not even going to try and lie, I thought I was killing my leg day (mistake number one) and then I got home and sat down (mistake number two) before I got in the shower and I’m pretty sure I sat there for at least thirty minutes really trying to decide if I was going to be able to get out of my UnderArmour leggings. Post-hot shower, I’m doing a bit better but already dreading how I’m going to feel the next couple days.

What Nicole Wore: Spot On, Nailed It
shop the post: brown contrast lined cardigan {thrifted, similar | also seen here} + magenta dress worn as blouse {old, similar | also seen here} + polka dot scarf {also seen here} + blue skinny jeans + tall boots {similar | also seen here} + rose gold spiked bracelet + nail wrap ring c/o the peach box {use code tpb-whatnicolewore for 15% off your purchase this month at the peach box!} + nail polish + foundation + blush + eyeshadows  + eyebrow filler + eyebrow highlight + mascara + lips

Before any of this honestly a bit traumatizing experience happened, I was just minding my own business, doing my thing and wearing this outfit. This brown cardigan with magenta outline is one of my favorite ThredUp finds, the sweater has metallic threading in it which makes it different. Magenta is such a bright and fun color to me, so I opted to wear the cardigan over my magenta dress to really pull out more of the boldness of the color. It’s been (suddenly) so cold here and I’m just trying to stay away from the blah drab colors that really add to the blah drab-ness of the weather.
What Nicole Wore: Spot On, Nailed It

I wanted to keep my jewelry pretty minimal since I was wearing a scarf to add a little warmth and some pattern with the polka dots. I pulled out my rose gold spiked bracelet and took my new Nail Wrap Ring from The Peach Box for a spin too. This ring immediately jumped out at me while I was browsing their site; how cute is the nail detailing?! I thought it was a really unique, statement piece but still (size wise) isn’t over the top. Some other pieces from TPB that I’m currently crushing on are: the Aztec Trilogy Ring, the Crystal Bezel Necklace and these fun pearl and gold ear jackets. You can get 15% off your order by using code tab-whatnicolewore now through January 31st!

I’ve been playing around with more dramatic makeup for blog pictures lately, but went really simple and used a few matte shades from this Lorac eyeshadow palette and fell back in love with it. While I typically don’t wear eyeshadow every day, I’ve found this look is very easy to apply and doesn’t fall into the, “is it okay to wear a super glittery smokey eye to work” category.What Nicole Wore: Spot On, Nailed It

I don’t think I ever realized that I “needed” a good polka dot scarf until I was gifted this one at work last year, but I’ve gotten a ton of wear out of it. I admittedly have way too many scarves, including some that I never wear, but this one goes with most of my closet due to the black and white palette and I love that the polka dots can add some personality to an outfit composed of basics.

Hope you have a great and relaxing weekend! I’m looking forward to trying a few new recipes to snack on during football + (hopefully) a couple trips to the gym.

Live Radiantly with St. Ives

January 4, 2016

Happy 2016! I hope you had a great time ringing in 2016; I got hit with a cute little winter cold, so I’ve spent the first couple days of 2016 in a less than glamorous manner — no sequins, just sweatpants and lots of NyQuil.  I know they say how you spend your New Year dictates how you’ll spend the rest of your year, but I’m ignoring that because I’m just not about that.

I’ve never been a huge resolutions person, but I do want to continue striving to become the very best version of myself in 2016. As we get to the close of each year, I try to think about something that I want to work on. In the past, I’ve focused on curating healthier friendships, learning to be objective when my anxiety typically effects decisions I make and not letting myself get lost in the crowd or peer pressured into feeling like I need to be at a certain point because “everyone else is.” I think that this year, I really want to work on controlling negative thoughts; I’m always my harshest critic, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I think working on less negative self-talk as well as adopting a more positive attitude are going to be the two things I really strive to get better about in this new year.  Overall, I just want to be “brighter” going forward and while I know that’s something that’s going to take work in different areas, I’m hoping it’s attainable.

But what about the physical side of being brighter? I dread the winter months like you wouldn’t believe. Snow? Dry skin? Painfully cold fingers and toes? Chapped lips? Having to wear multiple layers to the gym? None of it’s appealing to me. Thankfully, everyone’s favorite drugstore brand knows that and created some great new products to solve the winter woes.

What Nicole Wore: Live Radiantly with St. Ives
shop this photo: st. ives refresh & revive pear nectar and soy body lotion c/o influenster + nyx setting spray in dewy and matte finish + makeup organizer via at home {recreate with this plus this}
I was first introduced to St. Ives by my mom during the height of my lengthy acne bout; I’ve talked about it before on here, but I suffered from pretty intense acne during my pre-teen and teen years and it killed my self-confidence. While nothing about acne is fun, I really hated the scarring that came along with it. One of the products I used to help turn over the dead skin was St. Ives Apricot Scrub. This was a scrub I used religiously during my teens so I was really excited when Influenster asked me to try out some new products from St. Ives’ new line.

Putting on lotion after I shower has never been something I liked doing. I hate when lotion is thick and then I have to struggle to get pants on or feel greasy when I go to bed. What immediately struck me about the Pear Nectar and Soy lotion was how lightweight it is. It quickly absorbs into the skin and but still feels moisturizing. This is much more up my alley and with all the extra showering I’ve been having to do with hopping back into my normal gym routine, I need to be able to get some moisture back into my skin.

shop the photo: st. ives even & bright pink lemon and mandarin exfoliating body wash c/o influenster + st. ives nourished & smooth oatmeal scrub & mask c/o influenster
The exfoliating body wash has been the product from this box that I’ve found myself reaching for the most since receiving this box. The scent is not super strong, but still citrusy, I always have been drawn to citrus scented lotion, body wash, perfume, etc. so this wash is perfect for me. The exfoliating wash and mask from this Vox Box are safe for sensitive skin, which made me wonder if I’d be underwhelmed by their exfoliating ability, but the body wash might be the “just right” of exfoliating body scrubs for me. It pulls all the oil and dirt off without being painful or make you wonder if you’re accidentally going to scrub off a part of your body. {I’m looking at you Lush Ocean Salt!}

What Nicole Wore: Live Radiantly with St. IvesI put the Oatmeal Scrub + Mask on after I got home from the gym one night and let it sink into my skin before stepping into a hot shower. I like to use masks this way from time to time to really give the product time to sink in and also tighten my skin a little. When I went to rinse out my conditioner, I went ahead and scrubbed the mask off. I felt pretty meh about this one; I look for my face scrubs to be a little rougher — my skin’s a lot better than my teen years, but I still like to feel like I’ve pulled all traces of oil, dirt and dead skin off my face before I put on moisturizer. {Also, lipstick! A lot of time the leftover lipstick “residue” will give me minor breakouts and really dry lips}

I still felt like there was a lot of “old” skin left on my face. Overall, this is the product I was least impressed with. I would rank the Lush scrub I’ve been using the past nine months ahead of this, but if you are looking for a gentler exfoliator this may be a product you’d appreciate!

Criss Crossed Cardigan

December 30, 2015

While trying to think of a title for this post, I kept singing this haha.  This one size fits all cardigan from SheIn caught my eye with the white and gray colorblock underneath the diamond pattern.

What Nicole Wore: Criss Crossed Cardigan
in this post: gray cardigan c/o shein {also seen here} + black tank {old, similar | also seen here} + blue skinny jeans + silver druzy necklace + wood watch c/o jord wood watches {also seen here} + cream and black flats {also seen here} + nail polish + eyebrow filler + blush + highlighter + bronzer + foundation + lip tint {from this holiday set} + eye shadow + mascara

I really let it be the statement piece of this outfit by wearing it over a solid black popover tank {so, so versatile, I wish I’d bought this in more colors} and blue skinny jeans. The cardigan is very fuzzy, as you can see, and hits at mid thigh. It’s a little larger than I usually take my cardigans due to the one size, but super cozy. It fits more like a coatigan for me.

One of the things that I love about SheIn is that they provide trendy pieces at very affordable prices.

Shop my favorite new arrivals from SheIn:

What Nicole Wore: Criss Crossed Cardigan

This wine lip tint is a little darker than I wear day to day, but I really like how bold it looks and how smoothly it applies. Because of all the vitamins it’s loaded with, I don’t have to apply it over a balm like many lip products with this much pigment. The color payout is awesome, you don’t need to layer up to build this amount of color.
What Nicole Wore: Criss Crossed Cardigan

Building on to all the neutrals in this outfit, I pulled out my Fieldcrest watch; I love the way the light wood looks next to the white – so crisp. My other bold color comes from my nails, this is one of my favorite OPI shades.  What Nicole Wore: Criss Crossed Cardigan

The neckline on this shirt can make it difficult to find a necklace that pairs well, but my Kendra Scott druzy necklace always is up for a challenge. It’s the perfect length for this neckline and adds just the right amount of sparkle.

IG Roundup

December 28, 2015

It’s the last week of 2015 and it seemed like a great time to do an Instagram recap. Lots of these items are included in post Christmas sales {the ones I keep going back to are Ulta, 3x points for platinum members?! I’m about to have a whole new stash of makeup possibly, and Nordstrom – I really want to buy some new winter appropriate activewear since it’s been slowly starting to cool off here.} What sales are tempting you right now?

What Nicole Wore: IG Roundup

This sequin blouse from J Crew Factory is one of my favorite pieces to wear during the holidays; I bought mine off eBay two years ago. While it’s not currently available, it does get brought back from time to time.

Christmas Plaid

December 24, 2015

Merry Christmas Eve!  You may remember this skirt from a post a couple week’s ago. I picked out the red plaid skirt because of how perfect it is for the holidays so it seemed like the perfect skirt for getting dressed up for Christmas Eve. We’d usually be heading out to dinner tonight, but had some family decide to join us at the last minute so we’re staying in and making egg rolls tonight. I love getting dressed up with my family, but am excited to hang out in jeans tonight.

What Nicole Wore: Christmas Plaid
in this post: green coat {similar | also seen here} + embellished white tank {similar, on sale! | also seen here} + red plaid skirt c/o shein {also seen here} + black lace up flats {similar, on sale} + nail polish + ring + earrings {old, similar} + foundation {applied with this brush} + eye shadow {over this eye primer} + eyebrows + highlighter + bronzer {blended with this – dampen for best result} + mascara primer + mascara + eyeliner + undereye brightener + lip liner + lip crayon

I’ve been embracing lip color lately and felt like quite the risk taker when I ordered this set.  I really like the color and it tastes really good too. The stick is super pigmented and the color applies easily. Experimenting with makeup has been my free time hobby the past couple weeks and I finally caved last week and ordered a blender. Guys, no one was lying or exaggerating – it’s a game changer for your makeup bag! My number one ‘getting ready’ song recently has been December off Ariana Grande’s Christmas and Chill EP. Definitely my new favorite Christmas jams.
What Nicole Wore: Christmas Plaid

I love a bold coat and this green one is perfect for the season. I knew I wanted to pair it with this skirt with the subtle green stripe running through the plaid. It’s been super warm here (think 70 degrees) so a coat isn’t completely necessary but good to have on hand if the weather decides to get wonkier.What Nicole Wore: Christmas Plaid

I snagged these lace up flats a couple weeks ago when Old Navy restocked online, unfortunately they’ve already sold out again, but this pair is pretty similar and is on sale right now for $20.
What Nicole Wore: Christmas Plaid

Fit and flare skirts are 100% a “safe” option for me; I adore the ladylike silhouette and being pear shaped, I really love that they emphasize my waist and float over, instead of hug, my thighs. I’m wearing a medium in this skirt and find the fit and length to be just right. Be sure to check the measurements on the size guide if you are considering buying anything from this online store.

I won’t be posting tomorrow due to it being Christmas, but wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas! I’m very lucky to be able to count this blog as one of my many blessings this year.
