Where Nicole Went: Day to Day in Florence

May 26, 2015

I talked about how I was getting ready for my trip and what I was taking on the blog, but I also wanted to share some photos and stories from my vacation abroad. I’m starting this Travel Tuesday series as a way to hopefully share information about places I go and my experiences.

Must Have Monday: Vera Bradley Slim Travel Organizer

May 25, 2015

I knew as soon as we decided we’d be vacationing abroad that I wanted a cute passport holder. I looked all over and wasn’t finding anything and then Vera Bradley released the Slim Travel Organizer. I had no idea when I purchased it how essential it would be to my travels, but wanted to share and rave about it today.

for size reference: nike free 5.0 + vera bradley slim travel organizer
While it’s name doesn’t indicate that this is a wallet, don’t be fooled…it is. It’s a little longer than I prefer for an everyday wallet but for traveling the longer design is intentional to accommodate boarding passes.

As soon as we landed in Milan, we grabbed train tickets to go to Florence. This wallet became my holy grail because it held my passport, credit card, debit card, hotel room keys, train tickets for day trips all over Italy, airplane boarding passes, Triple C portable iPhone charger, euros and pounds, and Oyster pass.

As Seen on Instagram: What I Wore

May 23, 2015

Hello! I’m back from vacation and wanted to get an instagram roundup out, since a lot of the items I’ve worn recently are on sale this weekend!

hm maxi dress {old, love this one | last seen here} + hm cardigan {similar, on sale this weekend | last seen here)

I wore this comfy get up on my flights from Louisville to Newark and Newark to Milan, then a train from Milan to Florence. By the time, I got to the hotel I felt like a big ball of hot mess express. Hopefully, it wasn’t as obvious to everyone else. #OilyTransAtlanticFlightSkin

striped shirt via sam’s club {similar here and here, both on sale this weekend | last seen here}  + pineapple dress worn as skirt {pineapple skirt options here (on sale!) and here} + michael kors bag {similar style here, on sale in this color | last seen here} + opi polish

As Seen on Instagram: What I Wore

May 8, 2015

j crew factory sweater + new york and company pants + scalloped flats + kate spade new york handbag + nail polish
j crew factory sweater {sold out | last styled here} + new york and company pants {old | last styled here} + scalloped flats {last styled here, cute cheap version} + kate spade new york handbag {thrifted, similar | last styled here} + nail polish + ampersand necklace c/o carrie grace shop {last styled here}

It was a little chilly so I broke out my trusty camel sweater. I paired it with my polka dot pants from NY and Company, which have honestly seen more action than I thought they would when I first bought them. Rediscovering these scallop suede flats in the backseat of my car was one of the best things I’ve done in 2015.

Also, this pink. nail. polish. It was a limited edition color but is available on Amazon and eBay still. I love pink nails so much – always a go to color.

gap button down via thredUP {old, similar} + new york and co pants + new york and co cardigan + pink captoe flats
gap button down via thredUP {old, similar | last styled here} + new york and co pants {similar | styled here} + new york and co cardigan {similar | styled here} + pink captoe flats

I love how the dots on this button down are embroidered on so that it’s a contrast in texture instead of the more traditional color. Speaking of contrast…I really hope my feet match my body by the end of this summer.

'not basic' tee + workout capri leggings + nike running shoes + longchamp bag
target men’s ‘not basic’ tee {clearance find, not online} + workout capri leggings + nike running shoes {on sale at Nike factory}+ longchamp bag {thrifted | last seen here} + nail polish

I was browsing through the men’s clearance section of Target when I found this gem for $3. I immediately snatched it up because it was the very last one and was a small! I love the graphic tanks in the junior’s section of Target but ain’t nobody got time for a $12.99 cotton work out tank. I took this sassy beaut home and cut the sleeves off – VOILA. Cute (and cheap) addition to my closet.

old navy polka dot chambray shirt + loft gingham short {old, thrifted} + clarks sandals + perry street necklace c/o rocksbox
old navy polka dot chambray shirt {old, similar here and here | last styled here} + loft gingham short {old, thrifted. similar options here, here and here} + clarks sandals {love these white sandals} + perry street necklace c/o rocksbox {similar | last styled here}

I wasn’t sure if this was going to work (story of my life), but I think pinking patterns with more neutral colors helps to make pattern mixing look less busy. I’ve still yet to buy a solid chambray shirt so I put this on because I like the medium weight of chambray when I’m not sure about the weather. These shorts were a consignment find at $8, can I really complain about not wearing them enough? Nope.

vera bradley infinity scarf + charlotte russe hooded t shirt dress + charming charlie turquoise cuff + clarks flats
vera bradley infinity scarf {sold out, love this one and this non infinity | last seen here} + charlotte russe hooded t shirt dress {last seen here} + charming charlie turquoise cuff {old, similar} + clarks flats

I’ve worn this scarf with this dress before but I am so glad that it’s getting warm out so I can wear it without leggings underneath. I love pattern mixing with stripes and think the pom pom detail on this scarf is a fun touch.  My cuff is an old clearance find — I was immediately attracted to the large and bright turquoise colored stones and still think it’s so pretty.

What’s in my Bag: Carry-On Edition

May 6, 2015

What I'm Taking to Europe

What I’m Taking to Europe by whatnicolewore
I’m only taking a tote & a carry-on luggage piece with me to Europe next week and have been quietly agonizing over being separated from my closet. In a way, traveling this way forces you to make the most of the clothing you take and mix and match the life out of it.
These were all items that have been in my closet with the exception of the pineapple printed dress which is a recent purchase & one that is being put away until I leave for vacation. I am bringing more solid items than is normal for a week in my wardrobe because of how easy peasy they are to match up.
I brought the J. Crew Broken-In Chino shorts with me last time I went to Europe and they were perfect. They length on them is longer, they have nice pockets and are super comfortable to walk around in. The $13 I paid for them at a consignment store in Virginia makes them A++ as well.
Hope you’re having a great week!

xo, Nicole
