Anthony Vince Spa Review + Dip Nails: the Good, Bad & Ugly

July 6, 2017

While I don’t consider myself super high maintenance one of my favorite ways to treat myself is a mani pedi.  A couple weeks ago I headed to the Anthony Vince Spa location in Springhurst Towne Center for some much needed me time.

Most of you know, but I used to work retail which meant I was constantly on my feet and used my hands a lot.  Typically, I would get a pedicure every month and get a manicure then to clean up my cuticles.  Since I’m not in retail anymore, I hadn’t been to get my nails done since December!  Keep reading for more about Anthony Vince Spa, my thoughts on dip powder nails, plus the products I use to keep up with my nails between spa visits.

Anthony Vince Spa Review + Dip Nails: the Good, Bad & Ugly | About Anthony Vince Spa

Anthony Vince Spa has 24 locations throughout the United States with three in Kentucky {Springhurst Towne Center, Mall St. Matthews & the Summit at Fritz Farm.}  I’d actually been to this location before since one of my friends loves getting her nails done here.  Each salon has the center ceiling painted as a clear blue sky which really brightens up the whole spa.  While I went in by myself, I love that the spa features multiple pedicure rooms; they’re perfect for group pampering for a bridal party or prepping for a girls night out.

The pedicure chairs are extremely comfortable; I’m not a huge fan of the massage chairs because they often leave me bruised so having a comfortable chair that I can relax in is a must.  During my pedicure, I sipped on a cold water bottle but soft drinks and champagne are also available.  TVs are situated throughout the spa so you can take in an episode of Fixer Upper or Chopped, but played low enough where you can also just bliss out.

Wanting to try something new, I opted to get a dip powder manicure.  I’ve had the manicure for just over two weeks now and have zero chips despite the fact that I went with a lighter color — super impressive.  The nail technician begins by shaping your nail and then applying a “base.”  The base is a plain white powder that is then followed with layers of the color you chose.  Between layers a thin coat of clear polish is applied to help the powder to stick to your nail.

Some salons will do two layers of color while some do three.  We ended up doing 3 coats of powder on each nail and then topped it with a clear gel topcoat.  I’m not a fan of thick nails and wasn’t a fan of this; if you’re like this too, be sure to ask that they stick to two coats of powder, say that you want your nails to be thin and ask that they don’t finish your manicure with the gel top coat.

This system dries immediately, something I appreciated because there’s nothing worse than leaving the nail salon and messing up your nails when you open your car door or buckle up.  While I would get gel nails again, next time I would be sure to ask for thin nails since that bothered me.

Not a fan of visiting the salon every week?  I feel you.  I love a good at home manicure; usually I paint my nails every 7-10 days and see minimal chips!  I really like OPI’s Infinite Shine Polish system {base, lacquer, top coat} for an at home mani that lasts.  I’ve also seen great results from using standard nail polish with the Seche Vite Top Coat.  {Typically the standard polish will last around 5-7 days with this!}

Recently, I’ve been wanting to master the at home pedicure so I just ordered up Patchology’s Posh Peel.  When I visited the new beauty store in Lexington last month, I mentioned how much I loved Patchology‘s face masks and one of the gals at the store recommended the Posh Peel.  This foot peel has several acids that get poured into the socks provided and sit on your feet for an hour.  Then 5-7 days later, the dead skin begins to peel off.

While this is definitely kind of gross, I’m excited to try this out and see if it helps get rid of dead skin and calluses.  Provided it’s not TOO gross, I’ll try to give you guys updates on how it goes over on my Instagram Story.  Be sure to shop all of my beauty faves here!

    I wish there was an Anthony Vince Spa near me! It looks so relaxing 🙂 Dip powder nails haven’t made it to my community yet, but I’ve been really curious about them. Good to know what to ask for when I eventually get them done!

    That nail spa looks wonderful! I can’t seem to keep polish on my fingernails – it chips after about a day. Do you have any tips?

    Wow, I can’t believe how long they last! 2 weeks mine would never look like that. I can see what you mean about them being thick though, they would definitely be better thin. And I don’t like massage chairs either, they dig into my bones!

    Such a cute salon! I wasn’t a fan of the aftermath when I did dip powder. I liked how it lasted a long time but totally ruined my nails for about 2 months so I think my nails are just super sensitive? Hah. Anyway, thanks for sharing this!! <3
